I had no knowledge of Maya Angelou's work until now,
Her poem was a gentle deep thoughted penning very graceful. Your interpretation is just as graceful, and a beautiful rendition. I enjoyed your view just as much for creativity
Hugs, Trisha

    Thanks for reading.
BTW, I saw a documentary with my students yesterday that reminded me of you. It's about odd animal couples. You can find it at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BvB0182xag

Though coming from different directions these two poems
have a certain commonality and symmetry - freedom from
bondage is the inspiration for each.

While Maya concentrates on the "effect" of being caged, you
focus on a desire to affect the uncaging - and yet, the results
is the same. . .the reader understands freedom's effect on
"unfettered breathing" :-)

Very nicely done.

This, Maria, is a creative and imaginative response to Maya Angelou's poem. You expand upon it, writing celebratory verses about freedom as if you are a liberator addressing the caged:

Let me make sure
No cage will ever hold you.
Let's destroy the metal
That stole your freedom.

You make effective use of anaphora with the repetition of "Let's." This creates rhythm and structure. It also drives the narrative and action, as if you are delivery a manifesto for freedom outside of the walls of the Bastille:

Let's stand together.
Let the breeze
Caress our face
On the mountain top.

Let's open the door...

Thank you for sharing your inspiring poem and ode to Angelou's poem.

I love that poem by Maya Angelou...one of my very favorites. What a beautiful tribute you pay her in this lovely response. I could never keep a caged bird. My heart would break for it. Blessings...

Your poem is lovely and a nice tribute to the original poem
The reader feels the plight of the caged bird and the joy that freedom would bring.
Nicely done and thank you for sharing this one with us.

Good morning, Maria: It seems that I have not heard from you in a while. Have you been away from the site? It is great to see your post this morning. I love this poem that you have posted: " in response to Maya Angelou's beautiful poem, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings." I also love it that you actually posted her poem for us to read as well. This was an extra treat this morning so thank you for both poems. I really admire that you did this. Marvelous!

This is a good response to Maya Angelou's poem. Let us all open up that door and explore what life hold is the message I get from both of these poems. A good choice Maria. thanks for sharing,

Well done Maria, youve composed an excellent work here, I like the "if you set a bird free, it will always return to the birth of its freedom" my paraphrase. But so much allegorical truth in your beautifully composed poem Maria. Well done, good job, blessings, Roy

wow what a declaration of love using the metaphor as you did. Very descriptive and a love that endures all problems and wishes only expression

Love the last stanza. The very moment of freedom.

This could be about someone who is trapped in an awful situation. Imagine what freedom means to them, too.
