This has the necessary gothic look and feel, the plodding, somber rhythm and rhyme, and the dark images, of death and decay, of darkness and decline. "The doomed and damned of fear and hurt/ become food of worms, consumed into dirt" was one of my favorite lines. Nice boldly rendered images, and the alliterations were nicely done. We hear those footfalls falling. estory

Hello,
My favorite stanza has some cool metaphors:
I feel like someone's crawling in my head
I woke up one day on the wrong side of dead (love this!)
Too late now there's a glow in the east
Looks like I'll now have a seat at the feast
Take care

Well done! A fine commentary about death. I found it a bit sad and gloomy but maybe because I live with such optimism I rarely think about or contemplate the end. Thank you for sharing.

Well, life can be sad and gloomy at times, and not everything I write is like that. But I did just post and repost two that weren't exactly cheerful. I do have a few of those. But after everything I've seen in life, war, death, loss, I sometimes have to write about it. Thank you for reading anyway. I do appreciate the feedback.

Poet gives us rude awakening to the horrors in life. Brings us face-to-face with evil things and how tough to overcome these creatures. Life seems such a struggle for writer as he looks on dark side of life. truly, liberty justice

Reality sucks, I lost my rose colored glasses. LOL,
This isn't autobiography. Thanks for trying to cheer me up.
I appreciate the feedback.

Two things we can escape from and you named them in the tittle. Good poem it made me think. I like these lines they say it all. "The doomed and damned in fear and hurt / Become food of worms, consumed then dirt", the main course.

Thank you for reading and reviewing my poem. Watching the fiasco of Congress trying to create a tax plan that will help their wealthy donors and big corporations made me think about that inevitable duo, death and taxes.
Comment from Janilou
Ugh, that is some vivid imagery you have conjured up there. :-)
I feel like someone's crawling in my head
I woke up on the wrong side of dead
Too late now there's a glow in the east
Looks like I'll have a seat at the feast
That part was my favorite. Very clever. Remind me not to go to the feast!
I didn't see any errors.
All the best.

Thank you for reading and for your feedback. I've been thinking a lot lately about those two inevitables, death and taxes.

This speaks the state and status of death and tax laws and tax rules for man in course of living have been almost synonymous at the indifference of government; I like. DR ALCREATOR

The government lately seems a bit more callous lately, trying to make tax cuts for their wealthy donors and big corporations, and not concerned about the rest of us. They've shown their priorities.
Comment from royowen
We all are aware of the inevitability of life, the debt, the stemming endless pointlessness of death's destiny,. Lack of freedom from the chains of life, the endlessness of dreardom. Then that star in the East, the promise of freedom, life doesn't seem so bad after all. Well done Ward, beautifully written in no fixed meter, aabb rhyming, and articulate and a stellar descriptive text, well done, blessings, Roy

Roy, thank you for your kind review. Recent events have made me give thought to the two inevitables, death and taxes. Sometimes we can only hope there is something different waiting for us.

Hope should always be on the agenda
