Great challenge for the reader: "I'll allow you, the reader, to decipher which parts are nonfiction and which ones are fiction."n Many examples of allusion will draw the reader in. My maternal grandmother from hell, was a vicious switcher. Funny tongue-in-cheek humor: "If that doesn't date me, what will?" Cody vortexes from somewhere into your livingroom. Cool.

I can't tell you how to improve on this. I do have a question, so please forgive any ignorance that emerges:

Your front door opens into your living room, not a foyer?

You describe your home very well. I especially like your remarks about tapes and A-tracks.

Looking forward to another installment. Well done.

Brett,
I think it's all true except for Cody.
I'm very sorry for your friend. To lose a friend like that is horrendous and very traumatic; keeping all his records says what a true pal your were.
I found some capital errors unless they were intended for emphasis:
To this day, I have his Playlist (small letters) from that show in Foley. Of all the Country Music Stars (small letters) I have had the pleasure of meeting and writing about over the years, it is the only Playlist (small letters because it's not a proper noun) I ever asked any of them for.
Good story!

Yes, I remember those cassettes, 8-tracks, and records, too! That dates me.

You wrote an engaging personal story. What resonated with me is your talk about your love for country music and for Billy in particular. I have just been listening to Garth Brooks satellite radio station today. I keep remarking, "I love the stories their songs tell."

As for your story, I was caught off guard by how your story changed course midway. As much as I love the section on Billy Walker, I feel you should cut nearly all of it to focus on you and Cody. The Billy Walker went on too long and got in the way of what the real story should be. This would tighten up your story and propel it forward.

Thank you for sharing and for trying something new.

This is great writing. I enjoyed reading about your music experience with legends. Stories about them always interest me. Then to learn that you write for a living, it also is thrilling. I get a chance to learn from your writing.

I guess the only thing I can say is, where does Cody begin and Danny, I think this is, and he is, more or less a fictional profile of your son, gifted and projected into your fictional display of your son. Where is Mrs. Brett? Or is that none of my business. Great writing my friend, well done, blessings, Roy

Loved all the descriptiveness of your favourite place on the earth. And your favourite boys as well. Real and imaginary. I just got Skype up and running again recently if you ever wanna chat live. Good work, mate. I should send you my Christian Christmas Carols some time. Do you sing yourself?
