I enjoyed this poem, this slice of a great period of our lives. So many nice memories. I didn't want your clever and interesting poem to stop.
Please give us another slice as soon as you can.

This poem really gets you feeling like you are back in the day. Swinging in dance and being daring, trying to be the toughest. Dressed in the 50's clothes of various kinds. I thought you did a Great Job! Sherman541

This is about the holsum days in the 50s where we had manners and respect for elders and one another and even being safe at night. I was born in the early 60s,but I do know what those days were like. Very well done. R56ma3

You and I must be close contemporaries, Mystery Writer, because I remember EVERYTHING you describe about the Fifties and love how you are able to describe the time & place using the lingo effortlessly. I will never be a fan of AABB rhyming, but enjoyed this romp into the past nevertheless.

Rod, I just write for fun - poetry and stories - am not into all the AB stuff. My hat's off to those purists who are. So... I'm glad you could identify with the 50's that I loved and also glad that you liked the lingo use, etc.
    Many thanks!!

Dear Mystery Writer,

This is a unique and very entertaining take on the 50s and a better version of it than in some of these entries I have read. THIS is more like I remember...

You know, typically, I ask for the font to be made bigger, but in this instance, I'm actually asking that you consider reducing it. It seems like the poem is shouting at me. *smile*

Thanks and good luck!

    Robyn,
I assure you I'm not shouting "smile" at you, it's just that my ancient eyes like bigger print.. When I have tried to make it smaller before (your suggestion :) )I got print I could hardly read. will try again.
I'm glad you thought it unique and that it brought out things you remembered.

The fifties must have been a wonderful time. I'm afraid what I know of them comes from watching 'Happy Days'. I was only three when they ended. I do remember a time when we had to earn our grades, tho. When I went to school you could still get the strap, and you could fail. Unfortunately, learning disabilities were often not recognized. Still, I think it was a better system than what we have now.

thank you, Cindy. Although we never "got the strap," we were reprimanded verbally, occasionally. And as you say, back then learning disabilities weren't often recognized, which was embarrassing for those affected by it, but aside from that, grading for the most part, was fair. It really was a carefree, happy time.

This is such a grand entry. The poem has lot of movement. The reader feels as if he/she is on the dance floor, dancing the jitterbug and the twist.

Though I was not born in the 50's, I saw many videos and television programs from that time periods and your wonderfully written poem depicts this time period well.

I love every line.

Good luck in the contest.
