I hate Vietnam, I love Vietnam, I hate Vietnam, I love Vietnam.....
Apparently, your Letter to Saigon is either a re-post or a long ago post.
Still, it strikes the nerve; "Still in Saigon". Nothing more can be said.

You may find "1969 and a wake up" in my portfolio, as well as other 'Nam stories to be of interest.

Stay safe, Yard.

I am impressed with the fair description of the human solder: "Korea sent
The ROK marines
Sadistic bent
As death machines" Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writing.

We:
You've told of a wonderful liaison some soldiers had to comfort them while at war. Your words are urgent, they express so many emotions.
I knew a few Vietnam veterans who wanted that rush they felt in Nam again. Some wanted to return there.
You've expressed the horrors of war i.e mentioning Napalm flames and using the beat of your work.
Good luck!
Exceptional poem, EE.

Thanks for your notes. I enjoyed your poem before reading the notes but liked it more when I had more background. Very honest and nicely rhymed. It is a tribute to yourself that you can write about some of what you experienced.
Take care and keep writing.

Barry Penfold.

I have heard the tales more than once being service minded myself from '65-74. I helped create forecasts for flight plans of B-52's flying from Clark, (The P.I.) and Anderson (Guam).
I am glad you made it home, and sad for those that didn't.

Riveting. Like everything you write. I could feel the tension and fear and desolation and desperation of the situation rising with each new stanza. I remember watching the news during those days and seeing my parents' faces grow more and more grim. I'm so sorry you had to endure such pain. I hope the memorable poems you produce as a result of those days help you. If it's any consolation to you, they definitely help me understand the torment of the men who were brave enough to serve. Thank you for helping to keep us safe back here at home.

You write in your author's notes that those who served in SE Asia identify with some or all of this poem. Reading this, I felt as though I was speaking with those friends who served in Vietnam who were willing to open up and talk about their experiences. Many of them told me they wanted to go back - to fill alive again. I didn't understand it then, and I still don't, but I recognize that only those who have lived it truly understand it.

A very well written and meaningful poem. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and thank you for your service.

Pam

A moving poem that communicates a lot of feeling to the reader. I feel the longing of the former soldier. I like the rhythm of the poem. Good word choices.

My brother served in Vietnam as draftee in those days, although wounded he spoke very little of those days, as did my dad who served in northern France in the evacuation in 1940 at Dunkirk. This is a depiction of the secretive times of a young soldier in those times, beautifully written, blessings Roy

As an old airman, I have some understanding of the psyche of those who participate in those most mind-altering events. The poem is well constructed but bit more random in bringing out the feelings and memories of those past events. It Lacked the continuum of the theme. For those who have the experience of horror of war, the poem will make sense; others I am not sure what message it will deliver.
