I just moved from Coronado a few weeks back after nearly thirty years. Your description feels spot on. I had a similar experience with Mick Jagger. He walked up to me as if to begin a conversation. My thoughts were, I know you better than anyone in the world but I don't know who he is. After a few moments of silence he walked off. The next day one of my buddies asked what I thought about hanging out with The Rolling Stones all day. It was Mick. My buddies were building the stage for a stadium Stones concert. I was just hanging out with them. Can tell more stories about missing the obvious. It carries over to writing. I really appreciate your help!!

Thank you so much for the lovely review of this post. Yes, meeting Tom is one of the highlights of my younger days. I also met Harry Chapin, and most recently Hugh Laurie. But nothing comes close to discovering the hunky naval aviator was Tom Cruise.

My favorite is Hugh Laurie - loved his role in monsters versus aliens. Few would take the role of a crazy cockroach.

That might be one of his most popular movies of all time. Yeah, he was cute in Risky Business, but Top Gun was the movie that made him. He may very well remember the girl that came up to him on that set and kissed his hand. After-all, how many women kiss men's hands?

What a delightful story, Patty. You timed your plot perfectly so we only knew in the last four paragraphs the direction of the climax. There are only two sentences I would suggest working over, perhaps punctuationally, very minor, to let the reader understand without belaboring the meaning. I can go over them with you later, but for the moment I want to tell you you wrote a danged good story and worthy of the "True Story" prize.

Oh my gosh! I loved this story! Top Gun is my favorite movie from the '80's and it was so neat to read about someone who was actually in the area at that time. Don't be embarrassed at all by what you did! At least you were brave enough to go up to Tom. I'm super shy and probably would've just looked down and scurried away. Lol :) I admire you for doing it. Wow! Tom Cruise, that is an awesome experience. I believe everyone has a crush on Tom Cruise. Don't be embarrassed, this is the way many people act when they see him. He is probably used to it. (lol)
