Jenny felt an immediate connection with Rita, and she felt comfortable entrusting her son or daughter to this woman to raise. By the end of the dinner, it was all decided.'
I feel so deeply for Jenny and Ron is an utter jerk can you arrange for something REALLY nasty to happen to him? II think you have captured the raw emotion of abortion vs. adoption vs. keeping the child so well. I too know that feeling, once you know you are pregnant, that is your baby no matter what anyone says. You wonder about it's eyes and the man that broke down your ever defence only to smash your heart to pieces is apart of that child. This really touched me i will be looking out for more well done kindest regards Meia x

Hi Meia; thank you so much for reading and reviewing this part of Jenny and Ron's story. There is quite a bit more to come, so hopefully you will get your wish - though this IS based on a true story, so I don't have nearly the freedom to make something nasty happen - LOL!

Ron is a complete and total d-bag. It's disgusting that people can be like that, especially parents or perspective parents. I'm no expert, but how much did an abortion cost in the 80s? I ask because of the reference to the thick envelope of cash. Was it really that much?

Can't believe that Ron actually put it in envelope with Jenny's name on the front. Weird, cruel and impersonal. Like some sort of business arrangement.

I loved that Jenny headed to the mall with that money!

If this was pure fiction I would find it hard to believe that Jenny managed to find the perfect solution so easily. Yes, I know she suffered with public scrutiny but still. Still, I've experienced things that worked out in ways I never would have expected. So there you have it.

It is said that truth is stranger than fiction.

Hi there; thank you for your time to read and review this chapter. The cost of an abortion in Washington state for a working person was about $300. Ron's envelope was so full because it was mostly five dollar bills. Jenny and I were pretty sure he kept money in his house, so there was no paper trail for certain withdrawls.

For the sake of brevity, I didn't belabor the point of how hard it was for Jenny to come to this decision. She did try several avenues to find adoptive parents, and we went through times when she thought she could handle being a single mother.

I think I will go back and make note of the contents of that cruelly marked envelope,

Hi Patty, I think you have a good story going here. I'm a little bit puzzled that Ron didn't discover she didn't have the abortion as they worked in the same place. I haven't followed your story so I'll have to go back and read some more. It's a tragic situation they are both in. And the misunderstanding seems so pointless. The subject is close to my heart, as I'm adopted. I managed to find both my parents in 2003. I'm looking forward to reading on. All the best. Ulla:)))

    Hi Ulla;
the shipyard was very big. There were about twelve thousand employees working there back in 1983, and it was more than possible to avoid someone. Jenny merely changed her mode of transportation to and from work, and rarely took the bus into town for lunch. Ron found out she kept the pregnancy when he was served with paperwork to give up his parental rights - that wasn't a pleasant day!

They should have had more communication. The child's father still loves her.
He's recommending the abortion only because he doesn't want her to be a struggling single mother.
The trials of married life are so much more complicated than being single, but, OH, so much more rewarding.

Hi; thank you so much for your thoughtful and insightful review. Ron did indeed still love Jenny. Since she broke up with him, he didn't want there to be a child in the world living in a broken home because of him.

I think you will enjoy the rest of the story.

Although it can be a tough decision, finding another home for a newborn can be the wisest decision, and the proper one, to make for the child.

Storyline is interesting throughout and well written.

Sounds like a fascinating story, Patty.

One thing I found hard to understand is where they met. (Back in 1983, Jenny and Ron met on their way to work in the shipyard. He worked at one end of the shipyard and she worked in a building closer to the gate they went in together. )

Okay, after she decides to not have the abortion, but to put the baby up for adoption, does she continue at her job?
Jenny's life was turned upside down over the next five months. As her co-workers in the office noticed her condition, she purposely avoided their questions, but nothing could stop the stares. Patty was sworn to secrecy, so she wouldn't answer their questions, either. Wild speculation surrounded Jenny and her growing belly.
Wouldn't she meet up with Ron somewhere?

Interesting story!

Drew

Hi Drew; thank you for calling to my attention that I haven't mentioned just how big the shipyard is. In 1983, there were roughly 12,000 people employed there, and it was easy to avoid someone. I will go back and add that tidbit in, as well as the fact that Jenny changed her habit of walking to the gate closest to Ron's house. She started driving in with a friend and they entered one of the other six gates.

I'm glad you are enjoying the story - more to come!

The line about 'the deep creases' could use some editing Eliminate "the". Sometimes leaving "the" out of a sentence strengthens the action. The paragraph starting with Dr. Lois is "telling" instead of showing us with dialogue how this comes about. Words like continually may not read as well as: Day after day, " You have a good story here. I've already read the chapter about her delivery and the adopting couple. Take time to edit and maybe read aloud or have someone read it to you. You will catch errors and be able to make your work even better.

I liked that the couple didn't go through with the abortion and put the baby's interest first. Having a baby is a big deal and obviously they weren't ready. Im glad Jenny felt a connection with Rita. That's an important factor when making decisions such as this.

I have a son and daughter-in-law who are infertile and struggling to decided what to do next. Your story is really hitting home. I am so sorry I have missed the beginning but I'm able to pick it up easily.

Hi Barbara; I'm so sorry to hear about your son and his wife. The real life 'Rita and Bill' were so happy to have Joey in their lives. I think it was a true blessing to them.

Thank you for reading along, and since there's more to the story, maybe you will stop in once in awhile; I know you are going back to work - have fun with your first graders!

Ron and Jenny are conflicted about the baby. For two young people, this is a big deal. It takes devising a plan before becoming pregnant. They were not close enough to make good decisions. Nevertheless, this is the story of many young people. Pregnancy catches them unprepared.

Hi Phillip; thank you so much for the exceptional rating of this piece. It was hard to write and relive the scenes in my head - taking care of my best friend as she went through all of that was painful.

There is more to come - so, I hope you will continue the journey with me,
