You sound like a lot of fun. I think we'll just skip the picnic. Dinner on the grounds must be a nightmare for you. It reminds me of the song, Pave Paradise.

What an interesting phobia. I found your poem very intriguing, especially being a free verse poem. It described the scene vividly while giving off the tone that it's a scene you do not wish to be a part of.

Haha, very well written. I love the imagery you have portrayed. This is a good phrase, "that sweet dew-covered grass...
that awful carpet of my nightmare...
". Have a great day. Namaste

This might almost be a companion piece to my recently posted poem "The Drowning". It could be the reason for not wishing to sit down there. I wonder what was up there to create such phobia. This is an eerie piece very effectively written.

What a phobia but I truly understand. After all, everyone enjoys a lovely walk by the lovely lake or to stand by looking out at the lake. I don't know many people though, nor have I seen this who actually sit down by the lake. The ground is usually too damp there so even if you spread out a blanket on the ground, the blanket would be wet. You also have to worry about all of the little crawly insects that will crawl up your body if you sit down. So, yes, I understand your phobia of - not wanting to sit on the ground by the lake. Most of us do. (LOL)

This is a wonderfully well written account of the phobia of being near a lake, through past memories, who knows what may have happened, something quite bad...
But it was the last line that really brought home the horrors of yesteryear...
Good luck in the contest

Poem depicts a welcoming scene on the grass, and all it offers, however, not one you will ever enjoy because of your fear of the water.

Should make an interesting entry into this contest.

A very well-written poem about a phobia. When it is unseen, the phobia is even bigger and no one else can understand why we have this phobia. There are many microscopic creatures in the grass that can climb on us.

Wow. I don't know what happened but it must have been traumatic and the grass suddenly ends as the "awful carpet of my nightmare." I really like the imagery, the alliteration and most of all the meter which reminds me of a Frost poem.
