This is a really sweet Dribble Flash Fiction. The picture you found goes really well with it and helps emphasize that the importance of the gift is not the wrapping paper or even what's inside, but the real gift was the time they could spend together.

I am not sure if I missed something here, but this short piece of flash fiction felt like the resolution was too subtle. Unless the fact that Jeremy wanted to see his mother smile and instead, he smiled when he handed her the gift (because he imagined her being happy about the gift when she was really happy just to see her son) is the punch line. Is that it? If so, it's subtle--in fact, so much so, I almost missed it. I wish you well in the contest and hope the judges are smarter than I am.

Thanks for your review for my micro story, catch22. I appreciate your taking the time to read and share your thoughts. I'm glad you enjoyed the mini story. I'll pay close attention to the reviews, but so far, everyone seemed to understood the story. The Mom was happy with Jeremy's gift, but when she hugged him, he realized he got the better gift from him. It's difficult to tell a co plate story with just 50 words. It was quite the challenge.

This is a very well written piece of flash, I love the hidden meaning in the that wasn't put on paper. Him just being there was his greatest gift not the prize in the newspaper. Great job.

Good luck in the contest!
Have a great day and God bless.

And he really did give the best gift, didn't he?

Lovely story. Too sad for a foggy Sunday morning, but lovely, nonetheless.

I love the anticipation of the boy. I can feel his eagerness to please, see his face. And see his mother's. Great imagery.

Any story about a gift from a child is precious. He even wrapped it in Newspaper, how preciously adorable!

I put myself in this mother's place when I read this. If I was sick and in the hospital for weeks, nothing would make me smile more than my son doing something this special for me. The simple thought would bring tears of joy to my eyes. I LOVE this story.

Gift Exchange is a touching story that comes to life in so few words.

Your well chosen words makes a reader visualize a real person.

Of course, I'm sure most of us see a child entering that hospital room. Well done!

Sometimes the best gifts we receive in life aren't the most costly, or the most beautiful, or the best wrapped.
In fact, I've found that the best gifts are usually the one's which cost absolutely nothing but the gift-giver's time, ingenuity and a bit of imagination in creating it.
A homemade card for the holidays, or your birthday, scribbled in crayon by your child, for example.
Those are the gifts that always and forever keep on giving.
Those are the gifts we want placed with us in our final resting place when we go.
Good luck, Irish.
I doubt you'll need it.

Outstanding poetry, Indy. I love the concept from beginning to great ending. I wish you the best of luck in the contest. It is not an easy write to do a flash in so few words, I know. Blessings, Bob

This is heartfelt and sentimental and it's always the thought that counts with a gift, and when children offer a gift it means so much, good luck with the contest, love Dolly x
