Hi Jay, Your poem is very well written and I can see and understand that your so proud of your country. Up to a point that is. How can you be so condescending of black people? I thought your country was for all! I'm half American but raised in Europe. Ulla :)

Hello Jaybird, a well written poem both in rhyme and meter. All countries have their problems. I live in England and we are living in turmoil at the but it does not alter how lovely the country is. Your poem is rather sad in it's contest - rather unkind, but I admire the way you give us your opinions - we are all entitled to do that. Regards Dorothy

Your poem is well written and thought provoking. Yes, America has its problems but it's still the greatest country in the world. We just need to work at it harder. Thanks for sharing

I find this to be a very harsh poem. Full of blackness and doom. Having said that, it is extremely well-written, and provides plenty of food for thought.

jaybird: I agree with you. Americans have made mistakes.
We kick people out of their homes and send them packing
without food - trail of tears. So many bad history people, yet
when disasters happen - people lend a hand. Clever use of
songs to make your point, jay. We can all be a voice.

"Of Thee I Sing", is an exceptionally well-written and deftly descriptive piece. It was a privilege to both read and review this talented poet's work. To me, this is a six, but I'm never given enough of them.

Very nice, Jaybird! You've successfully revealed America for what it truly is. The anthem wails before every hockey or football game, too...
"For the land of the freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" ...how the soloists hold that note, eh? But the Indians weren't free. The black men weren't free. A nation of nations, but how many are truly free. There's no escaping taxes, even when you're dead.
But I have to say, there are many good people in your country. The United States is the strongest nation in the world, but not without growing pains. One thing for sure, you need to vote more responsibly next time. How many times has this current president embarrassed you?
The King of Tweeters!
"Sing out! "This land is your land...
it was made for you and me",
while many jobless workers
reside in poverty." ... I am a huge fan of Peter, Paul & Mary. I love listening to them sing songs like "This Land Is Your Land".
"jobless workers"... now there's an oxymoron for you!
You did a nice job with this poem, Jaybird! Congratulations!
Cheers

It is sin and godlessness that degrades a nation and causes its fall and ours is no exception. I love it and pray for it no matter who sits in office. I'm still glad I can vote for now and walk down the street without being shot. I hope and pray for change but it will take a collective heart change, and not just a few. Take the Roman and German Empire. Ruthless, murdering and in the constant fight for more. They were wiped out, yet we esteem their way of life. Your poem offered good insights, but no solutions. Just more "tour de problems.' I'm exhausted of this subject, but please accept my five for good poetry form, Jay.
Sending you my best today as well,
Sally :+)

A cryptic authors note mentions that America has made many mistakes in the past. Haven't we all? My country (UK) more than most -- but then we've been at it longer than most.
The poem itself cleverly give the lie to many of the great musical phrases of American song, causing the reader to nod wisely and say, 'Yup that's about the size of it.'
