I admired your social commentary and use of sarcasm to make your point. Thank you for reminding us of "Pledge of Allegiance" that should never go out of fashion. Well done- Joan

I truly hope that the day will never dawn where this becomes the pledge . I believe in America and in the American people sense of justice, liberty for all and this will always prevail in the end and I think the sooner people realise that America is more than its political warring factions, America is one nation , and if that nation suffers all suffer, if that nation rises all share in the glory.

You dare ask such a rhetorical question following
this piece of free verse, which, by the way is all I
ever do. So, welcome to my world. But I join you in
being bewildered by such sad state of affairs. -Bill

It sure is a scary time in our country. There will always be differences, but everyone...including politicians...need to respect the differences that make this country what it can be. Your pledge brings the silliness and result of political idiocy to mind. I wish the government would learn to play together with respect for each other's differences...learn to embrace and grow from those differences. Great write, Jay.
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

Sounds like a pretty good pledge to me. If it lacks somewhat in the gravitas of the original it has the ring of truth given the character of the utterer.

A very well-written poem and pledge to all to stop the division and stand as one nation against the world that want to destroy the country and the people's values.

A sad, sad state of affairs when we attack each other for differing political opinions. I thought that's what America used to be, a celebration of differences. A wonderful write, blessings...

Thanks for the blessing, It's a joy to be blessed. "Celebrate our differences". What a great comment. I love it. The pledge of Allengence was write in 1892 after the Civle War. "One nation indivisible". I hope this craziness settles down.
Thanks for the read

I love this! I am an independent and have been shocked by the course of partisan politics over the years. Now, it's truly sad we can't even have a discussion over policy without being called a crying liberal or some other label. For the record, I think I'm only considered liberal in the deep south.
Did you intentionally mean Dumdass?
Take care,
Russell

Sure did; "Dumbass". Liberal, conservative, no matter. What has been forgotten is "indivisible"; The pledge was written in 1892 after the war. I hope they start working together. I voted for Trump because of the party line bickering hopeing he would improve things As an outsider with no financial allagence to any donors. Wrong again he created a shit storm. ;we loose. Oh well. Thanks for your comments

This country has been divided since it was founded.
The biggest difference is the gentleman's agreement to disagree and not stand alone with their thoughts.
It truly is disappointing to see all the fighting, name calling, and mimicry.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Very well presented

I think America was built on amazing principles and is to be admired for what she has achieved. My son in law worked in New York for four years, (we're Australian) gradually became disillusioned, being a great admirer of the US, But I think most countries have surrendered ideals they were built on, I guess we all need to return to those ancient paths. It always starts with one person...us, that's the foundation its built on. An excellent post, sardonic, but clever, well done, blessings, Roy

Thank first for the blessing. It is my pleasure to be blessed. One wonder why so much of the world is running around screaming defiantly at the leaders while there leaders scream at one another. My thought is that civilized people just have things to easy. No worry about food or shelter; all is plentiful. They have more stuff than they would ever need, as a result they spend most of their time judging every body and ever thing. Its a result of life on a silver plater. And in this country the silver plater is their for all. Stay blessed brother.
Thanks for the read and comment
