A clever write Patricia, I have no idea what your Mother meant except to bare your soul to the elements? But you final few words say it all, 'to be just who I am', be yourself and be proud, love Dolly x

That would have to mean others are down there on the ground. Not a good place to be. Why does it matter so much how others see you? It's how you see yourself that's the main thing. That was a strange expression of your mother's. I remember my mother had a lot of sayings that we weren't sure about. Excellent work with your formatting for this. judi

Hi Patricia,

What you mom told you "to hang on the clothesline" doesn't make any sense to me at all. You should have asked her what she meant. Keep writing because I always enjoy reading them.

I've never heard that expression before, but it does make sense in a way. I love the satire in your poem. How could you possibly expect to keep from falling - but maybe that is what makes you change to be more of who you really are. Very well written. Thanks for sharing.

Great artwork and presentation to accompany your satire poem.
I have not heard this saying but ....
Maybe she was teaching you to be introspective and thereby seeing yourself from another point of view.

Blessings

Patricia, I've never heard of hanging yourself on a clothesline. I know we should be careful of our behavior and what others see in us. We should always shine for the Lord. Some won't like it, but keep on shining

Thank you for the nice review, Judy. I do agree we should always be careful when we are in public. I used to tell my girls, that when they were out in public not to act like ladies, but rather be ladies, because when you are acting. it will be hard to keep up an act for very long.

It is an old expression that may have sprung from, never air your dirt laundry in public, or don't tell family secrets. something I was taught at a very early age. I like how you formed this one and the words flowed smoothing from line to line. Very nice work with this one.

Thank you for the nice review, Sasha. I find one of the bad things about facebook is so many air their dirty laundry there.

I don't understand that saying either. But this free verse poem seems to say learn to be yourself and don't let others decide who or what you are. You should always be proud to be yourself.

Keep writing

:D Mom always said to me, and I quote..."If you could see yourself as others do, you'd never believe your eyes." This is great Pat. And Mom always hung our clothes on the line in warm weather. I like the placement of your words too. Effective and fun to read. Let's hope we can hang clothes out soon. x
