I can certainly relate to your poem as I too am fighting bone cancer. Good word flow, and rhyming as you tell of this dreaded disease. Sounds like you might have lost a mate to it also. I am praying for you, and hope things get better soon. God bless always.

Dreaded cancer has knocked on everyone's door, either ourselves or family member. We can just go with the best advice and treatment we've got. I think to write about these trials is helpful and your well written and rhymed poem touches on the feelings we go through when that happens. Marilyn

Beautifully worded. Your poem is filled with both sadness and hope. I especially enjoyed 'I'm bent, I'm worn, my eyes are dim,/but, my spirit's cancer free.' I'm sorry about your wife and that you later had to face this horrible disease as well, but I'm so happy you're telling this story 20 years later. A true inspiration! Thank you so much for sharing! Sue P. :)

You are a survivor and your poem speaks of how you fought hard for life. There is hope in your poem and you must continue spreading this message of hope beyond cancer. Thanks for sharing. Susan

This is such a deep and meaningful poem -
the sickness/cancer sadly taking your wife,
but when it came for you, I'm happy to hear
it went away empty-handed. And here you
are - 92 yrs young - congratulations.

a well penned piece, Jay.

Blessings,
Margaret

Well, you're pretty tough! And there are many, myself included,
who are glad you are. It seems that I can take on quite a bit of sickness (not joyfully!) if I continue to believe that Satan wants to shut me up so I will not praise Jesus so much and so I won't advocate for Israel being God's Land. That makes me feel better--like there's a real war on and I have the King of Kings on my side (rather I am a soldier in his army). When I was little we used to go to the Presbyterian Church and we sang Stand Up! Stand up! for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross! I woke up this morning with that wonderful song on my lips and it tickled me so much. I figured my subconscious had been out digging up old treasures last night. Laugh. I think when we find out God's reasons for what he does--we will wish we had had more faith. Your friend. Marcia

A very well-written heartfelt poem. Cancer is the most feared disease, but it can be cured lately. I am glad you are one of the survivors of the big C.

Amen, cancer may claim the body, but if the spirit stays cancer free...cancer loses. I am so sorry you lost your wife to cancer 35 years ago. I always thought that if I got it, I'd refuse chemo. But your testimony makes me think differently now. A brave poem, blessings...

It seems that all the pain has resulted in your having a strong character. My guess would be , stronger than beforehand. i wonder if you have consideed following a strict stanza form and rhyme scheme, or tried different forms of sonnets?
