Old Man Winter can be a tease with those few warm days. I really like your last stanza - I don't see any problem with killing a few bugs while the plants are sleeping. Well written personification of winter. Good luck in the contest.

Yes, we all know the hardships of winter, but your poem points out some of the reasons we may need winter in our lives even for just a little while. Well-done!
Good luck in the contest!

thanks. As I live in South Texas, this was pure fiction - EXCEPT I did live in Crested Butte, CO for 9 years and sometimes it was pretty brutal - tho lots of times beautiful and fun to be out in. (sorry, ended in a prep.)

Wow! Have you done your work to comply with the requirements of this contest. I also entered and just so happened to name my poem the same as yours. I like mine, or I wouldn't have written it. Yours is the first one I read. I have to read the rest to be fair. before casting my vote but, so far yours is the winner for me and gets my vote. Thanks for the write

Congratulations on your win. As I told you, when I reviewed you at the beginning of the contest, You got my vote; because you did, mine got zero and I am more than good with that. yours was the best. Great job!!

I loved your personification of winter. You make winter sound wonderful as I can picture it. But no, you cannot convince me. I live in a land of sand, sun and surf. I hate the cold. But best of luck.

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't want to live in it again either. Lived in Crested Butte, CO for a number of years and it was tooooo cold for me. I live in San Antonio - great weather, except summers are too blasted hot.

This poem almost makes me like Winter. He definitely "blows in" as one expects and I really like your description of his actions in stanza 2, especially the comparison of shivers to "acrobats." Then suddenly he's friendly as he smiles and "in cahoots" with Mr. Sun "offers a perfect day." His final appeal for understanding (if not outright affection) is quite persuasive. A strong entry that should do well in the contest, mostly because the rhythm is flawless. One slight error: in the final stanza "it's" should be "its."

thank you very much. I really appreciate your very kind words.
I get those two "its" confused all the time- or just simply overlook them.
Where I live our "winters" are mild. except this year we had 3 days of low 20s and all my plants froze - even wrapped in sheets.
Now, with dead greenery, it's in the 60s.
    Thanks again,
