Hi Alie, it was your gift working with your special 'bond' with your neighbour. Maybe to a child unsure of the way forward, it seemed a nightmare, now to are more in tune with your gift you realise it was no nightmare, just a message. Love U Anne.

Hey Anne, isn't amazing what growing up and even getting older does for us. I haven't looked at this gift as a nightmare since I was visited by the priest and told I had a gift and a blessing. It was others who created the nightmare side of it. Do take care, luv U Alie

Hey I received a lovely letter yesterday thank you so much. I wouldn't have been game to try my 'colour by name' on the nuns in the orphanage they would have had me on my knees repenting for ever more! Love U Anne.

Hey you and me too lol, ironically I made friends with the young nun who was also a new nurse who delivered me, so she was 19 years older than I but we became and remained friends until she died. We used to share hilarious stories and she always set aside her religious side when we visited unless we went to mass.

This is an interesting piece. I enjoyed it very much and didn't see anything to remark on negatively. The story went in a completely different direction than I initially expected it to, and that held me entranced. I read with interest the whole way and thought the writing was really good. Good luck in the contest!

I found this to be a very interesting read.
The descriptions of the dreams and the peoples reactions to them were quite vivid and realistic.
I am not big on the supernatural and that sort of thing and am at heart a sceptic about such matters, your story though was very convincing in it's simple understated style.
If you do indeed have these dreams of the dying, I do not envy you, as I don't think I'd want to sleep if I had them.

Thank you so very much for reading and then taking the time to review. I really appreciate your kind comments. Over the years one learns that it is not a bad thing, it never actually was a bad thing. It just seems that my circle has expanded to not only family but very close friends. I have only had one person become totally grossed out and I had one dear friend actually change their plans when I told them I had dreamed about them- the boat did capsize and two died because of the accident. Its not as bad as it sounds. Again thanks.

A well composed dreamscape. A nightmare or a prophecy. I'm not sure how to properly interpret this one, but nevertheless a joy to read. Very well done.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and then to review, I really appreciate your comments, I no longer think of it as a nightmare but more so as a heads up perhaps a warning. Most have been elderly and settled with their lives. Again thanks.

A very well-written contest entry. The idea of second sight has scared people in the European cultures for years. Many of the people that were gifted with it have been persecuted. The eastern cultures have always seen it for what it is a gift! Good luck in the contest.

I enjoyed this story a lot - the scene setting of the girls childhood was really lovely and the description of the dream with her soon to be departed Uncle Charlie really had me hooked. I particularly liked the way her Uncle Charlie hinted at her special gift by telling her to remain true to herself. Another thing I liked was the innocence of the girl when she told her family of the dream, the childlike way in which she had never considered that it may be more than just an odd dream.
The only thing that I would have liked to have seen would have been more fear described in the dream with Mrs Armstrong, what made the narrator so afraid to see her in the dream? I like the question at the end, it encouraged me to come up with my own interpretation, which is that the narrator was worried that the floodgates were beginning to open and that all her acquaintances would be able to access her via dreams when their time came. But for me I would have just liked a sentence or two at the beginning to explain why she found the dream so worrying.

You're welcome. I did really enjoy it and I do like a story that makes me come to my own conclusions. Best of luck with it.

This is excellent. Clearly written and interesting as well as educational on a metaphysical level. I'm familiar with these things. Although I don't have the ability myself, I have known one other person who had this second sight. People who are particularly intuitive receive this gift. I guess the word "gift" can be called such or not only by the one who has it. Marilyn

Hi Mystery author,
this is a very interesting write about how your dreams could see reality. I always believed that dreams were about the dreamer, involving past occurrences mixed with recent ones. The story is well written and a good entry into this particular contest.
Good luck
Mary

Very interesting response to the dream prompt. It would be a big responsibility to have to deliver those dreams to others.
One minor suggestion:
Delete one of the two 'had's in this sentence so you don't have them side by side. 'This was the first dream I had had regarding'. You can omit it completely or say 'I'd had'.

This was a very interesting story. You truly have an amazing gift to see things before they happen. I think I would consider it to be the ability to help a friend rather than a nightmare. It's strange how parents react to their children having a gift. Hope all is well and that your dreams are more pleasant than not. Keep writing.
