The memories of young puppy love will always be memorable and won't be forgotten whether it be sad or happy. I enjoyed reading your memory trip. Thanks for sharing your youth to the readers.

Wow. I love this so much. Growing up, I also lived in an area where the entire block was more like one family rather than a bunch of isolated neighbors. I like how you started off with reminiscing over the more innocent parts of your childhood and then built into a memory that was more serious and had a bigger impact on you.

Thank you. It sounds like we shared similar neighborhoods growing up.

This is a wonderful short story. I'm glad that it's non-fiction. I actually understand... school on Valentine's Day can be the worst thing ever. We're older now.... Let's not talk about it. I like that your are detailed in this narrative. Great visual imagery. Good luck in the contest.

Mary Kelly,

I really enjoyed reading about your broken heart. *smile* Not really. I did enjoy your story, but not hearing about how your heart was broken by a callous young man. This was well-written and I hope you do great in the contest. Go win it all!

Great story and I'm glad you fixed upon the emotions
and feelings that went with this story. They are the
key to its success. Excellent description of characters
and you didn't turn them into evil. An excellent and
different admission into the contest. -Bill

Very well written, Mary. I loved the story and can relate in some ways. whatever happened to Miss Prissy and Russell? Did they become an item for good?

The only thing I would change is you have this listed as fiction. Is it? If not I would change the info to Non-fiction.

Blessings and thanks for sharing, my friend. Bob

Thank you for the high praise and extra star. I always appreciate your opinion. It is a memoir but it is also a creative memoir so it's probably as much fiction as fact.

Your depiction of that memory is sad. Rejection, especially in front of a rival is devastating. I'm sure the experience was one that took a long time to get over. This is a good entry for the Valentines Writing Contest. Good luck.

Ah h h a tale of the first flickering of love narrated with honesty and some regret a gentle intro perhaps to the complexity of love in the real world

so sweet , so true, we were so vulnerable when we had crushes on a new or old boy. I completely understand how you felt and why you think of it sometimes and heck with Miss Prissy, she didn't have to such a stuck up snob and Russel , Well let me at him. He could have just said , Thank you. So sorry he hurt you.
