You know Alie, we are so alike. This happened to me, exactly the same, way only it was my son sitting in the way of a 'light engine' a one carrarige usually an engine and running at speed making it almost impossible for the driver to stop in time. Like you I ran, grabbed him, and rolled us both to safety on the other side. I didn't slap him, as his father claimed I was to blame because perhaps I'd not latched the gate firmly! Love U Anne

Wow Anne, that is so amazing when you think about it, two total strangers who happen to bond over writing. I do believe we do have so much that is similar. Oh I think I would like to have slapped him upside the head for even thinking it was your fault. I had one of those idiot type men in my life as well. Luv U Alie.

A well written memoir that reflects on and teaches several important aspects of life and growing up. Your nephew was lucky you were paying attention and such a quick thinker. This is a great story of tenacity...tolerance and bravery...I saw it unfold as if I were there...a witness...the making of a story that will linger...maybe forever...When I see a train I will think of this story...I am so glad it replaced the train scene in Fried Green Tomatoes...in my mind..

This is a wonderful entry. What a thing to have gone through! It shows that we are truly able to handle anything. The whooping was well deserved, but I also think it helped to release all that tension inside as a result of the incident. Little kids don't think and sometimes we do the craziest things when we save their necks. So pleased this one turned out to have a happy ending.
