Your triple Sapphonic Triad using all three quotes is most effective. I like the third the best, although all are good. This is an interesting form that one of these days, I must try. Marilyn

It is a great form for amplifying a haunting quote. Thanks very much for reading and reviewing my challenge entry.

How clever are you to do all three quotes
It's a continuing story of life in these three Sapphonics and all with a bit of a down side to them. Well done Red, like what you did with this,
cheers,
valda

The three quotes in the prompt seemed to fit together in the mood I was in. Thanks very much for reading and reviewing!

Three slightly bitter reflections on life. This reminds of that song "Both Sides Now". Whatever you are looking at has a dark and a light side and you don't miss either in any of these three triads.

Thanks much for reading and reviewing. I was--am-- a real Judy Collins fan. I did not listen to the BeeGees a lot. A quotation
    sure narrows a prompt...

A very well-written poem times three. Each one is perfectly interpreted and sort of linked to each other in a clever way, where they all have a separate message.

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing my work on Sapphonic Triads. I like the form as a way to comment on quotations. ( I have a dozen books of quotations, my favorite genre)

I enjoyed your triad of the sapphonic triad. You did a great job, LIJ, with each individual poem; yet, you tied them together in a super way. There is much meaning in all 3. I like the first one where you are referring to the Bible as the Word, right? The second one is a bit sad that love did not work out as planned. And the 3rd one about the price of a Coke was fun to read. I know Coke is the drink not a drug.

Good job & thanks for sharing. Jan

I was nearly through when I realized I had taken a swipe at religion, love and money. Abominable! Thanks very much for reading and reviewing.

Ahhh. . .a triptych of triads :-)

It's an interesting grouping of juxtaposed yin and yangs:
- the saving grace of hymns -vs- the fear of eternal damnation
- the hopefulness that misleads you
- the burst of invigoration from thirst being slaked -vs- the relative stagnation of wages

a very subtle thread of connection :-)

I was raised attending an independent Baptist church that was quite sure even other, milder Baptists were headed for Hell in a handbasket. I saw where some TV figures were in deep dung for attending a church where the preacher read from Leviticus.
There's PC, and then there's plumb silly...thanks for reading and reviewing my potlatch entries...

This most definitely is a look at simple living in natural surroundings, Ellijay. Walden sounds like so many rustic places. Your take on Dickinson's quote is a hoot. Doesn't sound like this is a bird of hope, the little bugger.

All three are a delight and totally you, which is priceless.

Love it, and too bad about the Coke. HAHA.

If hopes are dupes, fears may be liars. Sure is an iffy old world. Thanks for reading my attack on the challenge, Gloria.

Hi LIJ:

I love that you took on the challenge of a 3 part triad suite. That shows some gumption! The title was absolutely perfect. I really enjoyed the entire suite, but I have to say that this analogy is my favorite part of the poem:

The price of anything
is the amount of life you exchange for it

Once 'pon a time
and far from here
Cokes were a dime
A price quite dear.

A sixth of an hour's hard earned pay
put thirst away.
They cost the same today.

Great job!!

Kim

I didn't even look it up-I assumed that BeeGees was Brothers Gibb and Barry was one...and my memory has dumped me a few times lately. Thanks very much for reading and reviewing, Kim.

The only thing I don't understand is why your poem is the only one I've read that isn't entered in the contest. Yours, far and away, is the most provocative of the ones I've read. In each instance you flip to the sardonic side of the interpretive coin. Damn, that's good stuff, Red.

I get all huffy when I check a contest results and there I am, zero votes. Comes from living too long with a woman that really liked me, I guess. Sardonic is about all I've got left, Jay. Thanks very much for reading and reviewing.

Great job with your trio of triads, Red. I really like your work here, and the sardonic note you use quite liberally. The harsh notes of reality come to life as you're dumped on your ass, in the wake of "dreams so right". Ah...that's how it works out sometimes. It's good to maintain hope, but life ain't fair and that's the truth.

Funny how the cost stays the same, we get paid more these days, and stuff costs a helluva lot more too :)

There's a quote about hopes being dupes and fears being liars--Clough, maybe? Thanks very much for reading and reviewing.
