I admit, I could not follow the sequence of events in the first part of your story . . . paragraph starting with: "Little Conner was Gran's joy." . . . I'm not sure if this is saying that Conner's life disappeared, too, or are you referring to Gran's death, as it relates to Conner? Anyhow, this is a small bump. For the most part, well-written & once you get to the preachin' your message is sparkling with clarity & well-expressed ideas that leave nothing to be confused about. Overall, it's a good balance between backstory to support your preachin' & then the actual uplifting message itself. Sometimes I can be rubbed the wrong way when a piece like this sounds "preachy" (which yours absolutely does not!) You're expressing your views in a way that can be helpful to anyone who struggles thru life.
