Oh, I really like this poem, Jaybird1! I too have such a friend, so I can relate quite well to what you wrote. In particular I love your cheeky ending ... "If that man really was a nut, send me a bag or two". :)
Excellent rhyme and flow, and I have to agree, I love people who can just be themselves, and not try to conform with the majority of people.

This is great! Very well composed; full of meaning and respect; great wit in the last line. This reminds me of a local man who worked the same job for over 40 years, and who, though he could well afford to live differently, chose not to have a house or drive a car. He walked and hitch-hiked or took the bus everywhere he went; was a bit of a philosopher and a local legend. Thanks for reminding me of him in your poem.
