Interesting poem of the stages of life, well this is how I interpret it
From a beautiful babe with perfect skin and fussed over by everyone to an old man or woman relegated and alone to the nursing home.

Hello, poet,

I like your 2/10/2 poem entry for the contest. Your syllable count is right on the money. Good job! The presentation is attractive and appropriate for the theme and the words are evocative. Well done. I wish you well in the contest.

Yes, and every time we attend a funeral of someone unexpectedly dying, it can be a reminder of how yes, short life truly is, like I did a couple of days ago. And think your poem is a very good entry, and when I think of attic, can just picture old remnants of various sorts...from a life lived.

Thanks for sharing & Best Wishes for your entry...Caressa_08

A very lovely poem, love your B alliteration and your adorable picture enhances your words. There is so wrong very touchy about this composition. I wish you a lot of luck in the booths.

The cycle of life. Actually made me think of my dad's dusty old attic where he stored "the picture box". In that box were hundreds of old photos that chronicaled his life from the old farm in the south to his move up here. Nice!

Thank you for reading and commenting, Steve. Yes, 'ye old picture box' . . . I have one but it is half empty now because my grown kids have been taking pictures out that they want to keep. Also, I made each one a photo book filled with their childhood picture memories. Linda

This is a fine poem. I enjoyed your alliteration of the letter B. You also have a cradle to grave, or rather to attic, narrative arc. It is poem that reminds me of children toys banished to the attic. Thank you for sharing. I wish you success in the contest.

This was confusing to me as I had trouble imagining a baby that would be consigned to the attic. I did enjoy the alteration. The image makes me guess that the "baby" was perhaps a flower or weed. The 2-10-2 is a constraining poem.

mvbrooks: you missed the entire point of the poem which most people had no problem seeing. It is a metaphor about life from birth to old age. It is not about banning a baby to the attic. Thank you for reading. I tied for second place in the contest. Linda

I'm sure you didn't mean your response to be harsh--but it felt harsh. I'm sure some "skipped' your poem and it might be because they didn't understand it either. Please be more open-minded and kind in your responses. thank you.

Hi there,

Beautiful poem. I don't "do" poetry, but I can understand the 2-10-2. This is such a wonderful use of imagery and words to explain life. It seems so short, and that is exactly the way how you showed it.

I don't know about your use of the word attic. I might say banned to "die", especially with the artwork you used, which by the way, is fantastic with your poem. But you might have a reason to use the word attic, that I am too ignorant to understand. Perhaps because it is the highest room in the house, like heaven?

Still, I love your words and the strategic use of Bs. Maybe there is a B word that means to die.

You did a wonderful job on this poem. I think you will do well in this contest and I wish you luck.

Kelly2: I recently moved into a large house and my bedroom is on the second floor complete with slanted roof. It reminded me of the VC Andrews book series, "Flowers in the Attic". I had a good laugh about my comparison and then wrote this metaphor about life being short and then grandma gets sent to live in the attic. I spent more time finding the right picture than actually writing the poem but tied for second place. Linda

Terrific alliteration in this poem! Your artwork is symbolic of aging and dying, and is complementary to the theme of your 2-10-2. Syllable count is spot on.

Good luck in the contest!
