A well-constructed rondeau this with the opening stanza descriptive of the parade, the facade of of military might. Then we see it first as the soldier sees it every day, crushed under the iron discipline, and finally in the horrid reality of war exemplified by the body bags.

If body bags and the wherewithal to bring them home had been available in 1940 would we have given up after Dunkirk?

An interesting thought.

A grand parade indeed. Terrific Rondeau m. This gave me a sombre feeling in spite of the hype of the grand parade, nice refraining btw Funny how the ones with the least experience on the actual front line, get the most accolades and make the most of the material pomp and glam associated with the spoils of war. What heroes...NOT! The ones who really deserve the accolades are usually far too humble to probably want to accept them. They are the REAL heroes...
Excellent write m, sixer for you. Line for line value from the sabre unscathed, to the screams of death in battle...you ran a whole gamut of feelings...pride (albeit badly positioned LOL) sorrow, disdain, disgust and out and out sadness. Really well done, my friend.
Cheers P

This is an incredible poem, Mav. The beat almost sounds like marching soldiers which is testimony to your deft choice of words.

This is sad and does illustrate the "reality" of war. It ain't pretty.

Of course this a six worthy poem, but sadly I am out.

Super job from the mind of an amazing poet.

HI Michael, I would hate to be a mother in one those parades...men and women give their lives so we can live...and we honor some with body bags...so sad...I hate war...very well written...perfect picture you...Love Linda xxoo

ouch. Remind me to never get on your bad side, if I can possibly help it. You have a razor-sharp with and aren't afraid to use it. I admire that a lot! I 'enjoyed' this rondeau!

My only comment is using 'waging' and 'wages' in the same line. Seems repetitive...

Thanks!

Hi Mikey,
this is a very fine write about what all soldiers go through and although pomp and ceremony are nice they don't show what each soldier has had to face and deal with. More should be done for our heroes.

This is a very clever and creative poem with great rhyming that's unforced. The syllable count is really consistent throughout which allows the poem to flow effortlessly. The word usage is also really good and helps to hold the readers attention. Really nice job, keep up the good work.

The pomp of parades show the honor we give soldiers. Which is their due. But it does hide the pain and memories inside the soldier from what he did and witnessed done.

This rondeau flows nicely and showsyou feelings clearly about the effects of war on and off the battlefield.

A very well-written rondeau. A parade of soldiers where they show their disciplined coordination with shining buttons and ranking stripes.

What has possesed you, Michael? You have become one helluva a poet over night, not that you weren`t already, but wow, this is two amazing pieces in a row. I can`t even chose. Awesome work and not political either. Universal truth. NG
