These quatrains tell the story of grief at the loss of a relatioinship even if it is a bad one. Love was still there at one time. It shows how hard it is to love agian. But that last quatrain shows that everyone has hope to find the perfect someone.

A "bed of roses" is an expression, which means an easy and peaceful life. Most likely based on a rose representing happiness and love, so a bed of roses would represent a very happy life. I guess they didn't think about the thorns. Excellent use of words to create a excellent poem. The artwork provided certainly compliments the theme. Thanks for sharing this piece.

This is one of those "All that glitters is not gold" type philosophical poems. Unfortunately that bed of roses had its share of thorns and you found them.

A devout man? Hmmm! You could have a long wait.

"As the sign(s) in Heaven discloses." You have a plural subject and a singular verb -- sign discloses or signs disclose. I suggest you go with the first to preserve the roses/discloses rhyme.

You did a great job with your love poem contest entry. The colors are perfect. The picture is awesome, too. I like the repeating line 'as I lie in this bed of roses' & how it changes ever so subtly in the last verse. This is a great message not to give up. There is someone 'out there' for everyone.

Wonderful piece and so true. Unfortunately, we must lie in that bed before we find true love. How would you know what true is if you never experienced the fake ones. I love the vivid descriptions of the pain and deceit that come with fake love. The finale is awesome, we MUST rise up from that bed and brush off those thorns in order to find that true love. If we don't, we just might let it pass us up.

Twenty years ago, there was a film called Bed of Roses, like your poem, that I loved.
I have enjoyed reading this even though it's sad. The best part, in my opinion, is the last stanza because it's full of hope.
