I would say you wrote a very good essay on describing the different forms of POV. They are very hard to work with unless you understand them. Once in a while I still get caught giving another person's POV without notifying my readers.

So pleased you enjoyed this. It helped me to write it and I hope it gets across the information in some easy to understand English. Thanks so much. Mikey. :))

Mikey, I read most of this, but lately, my attention span for some reason is becoming shortened. Maybe my cancers and other health issues or the meds I take is having this affect on my mind. I am going to bookcase this so I can read it to help me in understanding what it takes to write prose! It is a big challenge for me.

Mikey thank you for posting this essay. It will be a huge help for me!

You friend,

Jim

boo IS A DUMMY, I NEED A pov. Nice story that took an abundance of time, I realize. BOO come back to collect his booty from his locker before his disappearing act. As you already know... might as well give some presents before the back door hits me where the Good Lord split me... he --he, nice story, appreciation for the extra effort done here, which is obvious. Author notes are a blessing for a cow-licked ghost like me... collect your doubloon, Lion King. See ya' in the after life, BOO!

Hey, Booooooo. Wondered where you've been. Sometimes your pieces are in the disabled section and you just have to activate them. I've found some there. Check it out. When you call up your portfolio it's the last category on the right. Click on it, all your posts may be siting there. Appreciate the doubloons. See you on Facebook and other places. :)) mikey

Mikey, you are a star!!! Thanks a lot for this essay that's puts it all in perspective. I haven't entered the potlatch recently as I was not sure what anybody was talking about. You have made that very clear and thanks for that. I'll join on Sunday and if I fail to get it right it's certainly not your fault. Thanks a lot for this clarification. Great job. All the best. Ulla:))

I was struggling for a while too. I tried to put all the fancy talk in English here so I'm thrilled it's a help. No worries on Sunday about getting it wrong or right. I got it totally wrong a couple weeks ago and they barely beat me at all. HAHAHA!
It's going to be a really fun challenge this week. You'll love it. See ya there. mikey

That was really interesting, Mikey, and helpful too. I'm writing in first person at the moment. I'd never heard of 2nd person! So I've learned something already! I must pop into your potlatch prose and see what else I can learn. Well done on writing this educational and very interesting piece. :) Sandra xx

Whew. I'm so pleased this made sense. I'm learning this and I tried to kind of put it in English without some of the fancy talk. LOL
We would LOOOOOVE to have you stop by. We are real friendly and darling people, you'd love us. HAHAHA! We have our little prose challenge on Sundays and they are too much fun. I totally got mine wrong and no one tried to execute me, so it's safe. See ya there. Glad you liked this. mikey

You certainly got me confused. I understand now what point of view means. The first person I understand, but then you got me lost. At least you can use all now.

It's complicated. We just keep talking it out and going over and over it. I'm starting to understand it more and more as time goes by. Glad you got some good info out of this. It just takes time. First person is one of the best ways to write stories. So that's a great form to know. mikey

Nice one Mikey,

We could spend months on this topic along. I love mucking about with POV, but as you say, it can get very messy! LOL

The second person is an interesting one as it used to be used a lot in the 1980s with burgeoning computer games and adventure books. you know the ones where you chose the story.

"You are in a dark room. you have a plaster, a rubber chicken and a butterfly. What do you do?" text based pc games. LOL - I used to love them.

Good piece with some solid info.

All the best
G

very good Michael a great write on first and third party writings, my mistake is I often mix the two together in a story, I have to learn to stay away from that. Great job on this.a great learning read. have a good day my friend.

I know what you mean, William. I mix everything including tense. I'm finding that the better I understand this stuff though and the more I practice the better I get at it. Glad this was a help. That means I'm getting it myself too. Hope you can find some time to drop by on Sunday. Check out the Potlatch threads in the Challenges Forum. mikey

Michael,
I enjoyed your POV explanation. Your did a great job explaining the 3 views in a fun way. Your story within a story of the POV possibilities added flavor to just reading about definition of the POVs.

The colored text was helpful, too. You have a great imagination that is expressed in your unique style--as it should be.

About 2/3 down:
know damn well she's thinking I'm fat. What's knew, Mary?

Good job on a thorough explanation. Jan

Oh yeah, "knew", good catch. Glad you liked this, Jan. I was worried I might not get it well enough to explain it in English. Whew. I'm relieved it came across clearly and you enjoyed it. Thanks a million, mikey

A very good post, mikey. This prose stuff is all new to me as well except for the bit we learned in junior high. HS was literature and in college the only English class in my program was freshman comp--no pov there, just the facts, ma'am. Interestingly I had to take two semesters of French. Go figure! These challenges make learning fun, though~Debbie

Yep, I remember Freshman Comp. Pretty dry stuff. I did Latin instead of French. It's nowhere near as pretty a language. LOL
I'm loving these prose challenges. I'm surprised to find out how limited I've been in my prose writing. Jeesh. It IS fun. mikey
