I'm laughing out-loud. My daughter did not like commercial baby food.
{ I watched him as his expression changed to one of disgust. He started spitting and in no time I was covered in green goo. }
This story kept me reading because so many people think their way is the only way. Good read.

Hi there, a very good entry for the competition and I can just imagine it all. Well written. I liked it.
I saw from your profile you live in Madrid. I live in Spain as well, inland from Denia, up in the mountains.( Valencia region) I used to live in Madrid many, many yeas ago studying Spanish literature at the University there. All the best. Ulla:))

Thanks for your review, Ulla. I don't know the place where you live but it must be very beautiful .
-
It is very beautiful. I love Madrid though. One of my favorite cities. Ulla:))
-
Did you study at Complutense University?
-
I certainly did. Did you as well?
-
Yes, I did. A million years ago. 😀
-
Me as well. 1973 - 1974, to be exact, Loved it.
-
I spent five years there, I started my degree when I was 18, so it must have been 1982. I studied English.
-
Are you Spanish? I'm Danish and studied Spanish at the university of Copenhagen. Then travelled to Spain and studied. Now married to a Scott and lived here for many years, and not ever leaving. Kind regards, Ulla:)
-
Yes, I'm Spanish. I've lived in Madrid all my life apart from holidays in the UK.
-
You know, it's funny but there's another lady in Fanstory who's Dutch and is married to a Scott, but she lives in Amsterdam .

I had to laugh at this. I became a mother at twenty-seven and people were always telling me I was doing it wrong. My answer was to hand my screaming daughter to them and say, "if you can do it better, please be my guest." You'd be surprised how quickly the baby got handed back and no more was said lol. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

That was a neat trick. I wish I had thought of it myself.
Thanks for the review and for sharing.
BTW, I was 3rd in the contest together with two other people. Not bad.

I don't know if it's possible to switch from the sweetened store-bought baby foods to home-cooked without adding sugar. Then right there, you're back to the 'unhealthy' and addictive sugar.
Good try. haha
Very funny story. I liked your truth about the apron. Baby spitting green stuff--he was born to protest. haha
Good luck in the contest.

Did he enjoy spinach in the ready-made foods? Maybe you seasoned it for an adult tongue, instead of ultra bland. At any rate, you write the story well. One place has a period before a speech tag, which is a nono in
yankdom, which your single quotes tell me you're not. Excellent.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that. And no, I'm not American. I'm Spanish in fact. And I don't know why I got used to the single quotes as in Spanish we use the other ones ;)

I agree with you. I kept my kid on baby food for as long as I could enduring the harassment of my mother-in-law and others. They all survived. Much success in the contest.

This meets the contest requirements beautifully. I thoroughly enjoyed this as I think all young moms go through this same period of well meaning advice that never quite works. It is always best to follow your own instincts as every child is different and .... spinach is an acquired taste LOL. I wish you all the best in the voting and thank you very much for sharing it.

My pleasure. I voted for this one.

Thank YOU. I don't seem to be doing very well in the competitions so far.

Hang in there as we have all experienced contest blues at one time or another. It is a really good piece and one day it will be your time to shine :).

This was a cute piece. When it comes to the first baby, I think all women are novice mothers and easily influenced by others. I don't think there is a one of us who hasn't ended up with a face full of green goo at some time or another from our little darlings.
The contest rules state the readers should be able to laugh at your entry. I didn't find the humor in this piece and didn't laugh. Also, I didn't see the word count in the author's notes. Good luck in the contest.

I'm sorry you didn't find the piece humorous, I tried to make it so but the word count is there. Thanks for reading.
-
Don't be sorry! Just because I didn't see the humor doesn't mean others didn't. Everyone sees things differently; that's what makes the world go around. Yes, the word count certainly does put a cramp on the creativity - it is hard to bring things to full bloom when so few words are allowed.
-
No, what I meant is that the word count is in the authour's notes. Maybe you didn't notice because it's exactly 300 words. ;)

Very good! Those baby foods in a jar are better for babies than homemade, since they have balanced nutrients, the right amount of sodium, calcium, and other necessities, plus they're guaranteed to be safe and age/weight appropriate.
