Hi Ine, I'm glad you overcame you fear of flying. I can understand the fear though. I was a cabin attendant for twenty years and met many a passenger with that fear. But I've also helped many to overcome it. A very interesting poem you have posted. Good luck in the contest. All the best. Ulla:)))

A very well-written poem. The fear of flying is still one thing I have to overcome. I am not scared of heights only flying. I had to fly once when my father died, I made the trip but the fear is still strong.

This really fits in well with the contest requirements, and good luck with it. You really get into the source of your fear with the story about your father's near-miss. You make a valid claim that you may have gotten your fear of flying from him. You relate how you overcame your fear when you flew several times to visit your future hubby. I'm thinking you might want to put your last stanza after the second stanza, so you end on the positive note of overcoming your anxiety about flying. judi

Hi Ine;
-I really enjoyed your poem but I had a hard time understanding your first verse especially your last line of verse: "Flat is a photographic recording." The rest of your writing makes sense and I too am afraid of heights but sometimes I get over it.
-Good rhyming and rhythm and good enjambment.
-Great imagery both descriptive and expressive.
-Excellent picture that develops the poem and reflectively is very appropriate and relative.
-Thank you for sharing and posting and good luck in the contest and have a good one.

It takes a lot of courage to overcome your fear of flying. In 2014 I went by plane to Tasmania for the first time in my life.I was not afraid. Marijke's sister and brother in law were with me.In Tasmania I heard on the News a plane was missing. Marijke did not tell me, because I had to go back to Holland again. A year later was the accident with the MH17, I had a fight with MH17 too the year before. Accidents can always happen. If you travel by plane, car or train. But the idea it happens high in the air.....

I have always had that fear, but in the last ten years I have been flown out on the Flight For Live Planes twice and I had no say in it at all. lol But I was so heavily sedated I didn't care. LOL Good story Ine. Short flights are the easiest and most interesting. xx Nancy

Goodness me, your father must have had an angel watching over him on those occasions! I don't think I would want to fly again after those two episodes, but he must have flown at least once more to go home! Great poem, my friend! :) Sandra xxx

I used to love flying, even flew in a single engine craft with a pilot friend who had me take over the controls, but after a particularly rough flight one time I haven't been able to bring myself to fly again. Your poems speaks to a fear many have, I think. It's very well done, and I love the picture, Ine.

Hello, Ine. Wow! You certainly are to be admired for overcoming your fear of flying. I strill am apprehensive each time I have to fly somewhere. But after making it to Hawaii and back from the east coast two times in my life, Im guess I will be okay. LOL..your dad barely escaping that crash was a miracle, eh/
