This is incredibly beautiful in every way! The theme, the music, the picture, but mostly the way you have written it is simply top-notch. I think, personally, I would have ranked this a little higher than third. But, no one asked my opinion. ;"(

Just so you'll know... it is perfect! I love everything about it and I thank you for sharing.

This is a very hopeful poem about how learning to be grateful can change your life.
It shows how stupid things can bring you down and faith can bring you back.

Congrats on placing in the contest.

Keep writing

Dawn, this is a lovely poem and the message within is so true. Life is indeed too short for a rife over something trivial. Happens a lot in families I'm afraid. Good luck in the contest. Love the music. All the best. Ulla:)))

Good poem with a very true message. Good word flow as you tell of the difficulty of being forgiven by a relative. Very true that kinfolk should forgive quicker, and more often but just seems that's not the way the ball bounces.

"It should be a lot easier to forgive blood," but often the opposite is true. Life is far too short to harbor slights, especially within a family. Thank you for exhorting yourself and the rest of us not be "punished Forever". I liked the double meaning of "matters" in the title as well. Warm regards and best wishes in the contest- Joan

You are the first one to mention the double meaning in the title - thank you, Joan; you always understand my intentions!

There is so much more of this than I once thought. In my own family, there is a similar situation and it breaks my heart. My grandson has refused to forgive his father for over 13 years. And although it wasn't over something petty, not only have they have both lost out but so have the grandchildren

That is so sad! I'm sorry, Dallas. I'll pray it is put to rest once and for all, for all concerned.

There is so much truth and wisdom in this well penned piece. So many families are torn asunder by petty quarrels - forgiveness heals all things if we take that first step. I wish you all the best in the judging and thank you ver much for sharing this.

I think that what I love most about your writes is the eclectic nature of your clever pen. Lovely free verse, potent message. Resonates because i have some bloody-minded family members who still dine out on petty issues that should have been long since put to bed. Church-going Catholics all of them. DJ

Hmm, yep, I find some of the worst offenders are those self-righteous church-goers...of course that doesn't mean they're ALL like that, but the ones who are - please, spare me!

An interesting read Dawn I like it.
I understand the whole meaning behind it.
Encountering these same reactions myself I have found that my new family members are those who I have encountered though Life's Journey and they appear through the "Hearts" of precious Little Angels and they calm the Ripples of the Soul.
Thanks for the read, Dawn...Well Done...Quantum Traveler.
