I live in the south and born and raised and I think you did a pretty good job with this. I wish you the best at the booths. Never in my life heard of hopping John. I learned something. Nice.

Rating changed to five.
I really enjoyed your use of the required Southernisms in your poem, but I couldn't read any of the required words in your third couplet. Please let me know when you correct this, and I'd be happy to increase the rating. I loved your imagery and best wishes in the contest.
Smiles,
Indy :-)

ma'am was also used only need to use three

Reading the rules and the sponsor's example, I think the minimum words to use is three, but each separate couplet needs to use one of the words? I've reviewed several of these and that's what they all did. All your completes use one of the words except that one. Hope I didn't offend you, but that's how I read the rules.

Love this! We southerners definitely like a little chicken fried. I live in the south and never experienced some of those delectable dishes until I moved here. I really like the polite, hardworking tone of this poem! Thanks for sharing my friend!

Country Cooking started in the South. Shine helps to wash Southern Fried Chicken down. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read.
