This is terribly sad, but a tribute must be made and you have done a fine job. When you see war in these terms, you wonder why we don't engage in some sanity and end all war, doesn't it? But we don't and we won't until the last one--I, for one, am looking forward to that one. Touching. Lump in the throat. Deep pain in the heart.
Unbearable sadness. Your few words and thoughtful presentation have wrung every sad sentiment from so few words.

Thank you for your kind words and thoughts. War ends when human frailty ends ... not likely. Good luck in your future writing efforts.

Well worth the placing in the contest.

This reminds us about all the life lost in this battle and in every war. It also shows we should pray it never happens again.

I like the red background for the blood spilled.

Keep writing

Deep and communicative of this sad and momentous occasion. Great wording and the accompanying picture and color within the boards are expressive in themselves. Thank you for sharing, and congratulations on winning second place!

D-Day was a blood-bath, and the world paid a heavy price for freedom on that day. Lest we forget.
The world is back to full-fledged crazy these days, and I hope we don't ever have to re-learn the lessons that so many paid the ultimate price for

Great 2-4-2 - It says it all in just 8 syllables.
Rose.

Bravo! Describing the torture of wars reality in a most effective description in minimal words, evoking a visual that is all too terrific to imagine.

Oh, my. This is tremendous. You generated such emotion with your few words, and you even accomplished rhyme! That's a lot to achieve in eight words. Congratulations on this fine work. It will surely touch a nerve at this particular time, too, with D-Day coming up. Thanks for the service you put in. Best of luck in the contest. It's surely a winner. judi

You did a very good job with this 2-4-2. Every word makes sense and the rhyming served to enhance the poem. World War II vets were indeed the greatest generation.

Agree that it would've seemed appropriate for your contest to have at least one poem to be written on the subject of D-day's anniversary since that was your contest's deadline date as you pointed out. Regarding the 2-4-2 poetic scheme then for your contest entry, it manages to get the idea of what happened on June 6 of that particular day in history without becoming too fixated on the wartime violence beyond "blood-red sea spray."

Instead you chose to close your poem with "let's pray" to honor those soldiers who died from such a horrific battle that even they themselves weren't all too sure that it would succeed; just the overall fear and uncertainty they must have felt - only to get cut done in the prime of youth, never to know the results of their efforts. Good job and wish you luck in your contest.

This is simply a haunting and powerful evocation within the strict structures of the 2-4-2 of that significant moment in the history of the world when serious action had to be taken to stop WW2
