Excellent

I work retail and we have older people come in all the time and they can be the best people to sit and talk to. I love the older couples or the ones who've just lost their loved one because you can just feel the warmth they have for each other. I had an older gentleman come thru my line and he told me his wife was just diagnosed with cancer and wanted to stop fighting it. He was out buying her special things because he said she never let him give up on anything and he wasn't going to let her give up this fight. It was the sweetest and saddest thing I'd ever heard. The love he had for her, it's a love that I think only older couples have over time, the love I hope I have one day with my husband. Great job

Excellent

I don't work with the elderly everyday as you do, Anonymous Poet. However, I do get the pleasure of volunteering twice a week through a program we have at our church called the Adopt a Son or Daughter program. We visit elderly shut-ins in nursing homes in our area and "adopt" a parent, who in turn adopts us as their son or daughter, by proxy. It's for those who no longer have any family left to speak of, or whose families never care enough to visit them, for whatever reasons.
I gotta tell ya', I feel far more blessed getting to spend time in their company than they do in mine.

Thanks for sharing your compassionate viewpoint in poetry form of your feelings about the aged. I'd like to challenge people to sit and visit with the elderly and get them to tell their stories, it can be so interesting.
