Nice job on this one, Tom. Tugboats are amazing. I've seen them pushing HUGE container ships up to the docks when I lived near Humboldt Bay. I knew a guy who had a tiny one, it was the cutest thing ever.
So I guess you've heard of Boaty McBoatface? I never found out what they decided on that one :)

Thank you Carol. No, I haven't heard about that one. What's up?

"The online poll to name the United Kingdom?s new royal research ship closed Saturday, and the perpetual front-runner ? ?RRS Boaty McBoatface? ? is the overwhelming winner." Just google Boaty McBoatface to learn more. Leave it to the Brits! Lol.

Usually, Pantoums are rather droll, but not this one!
I too was tickled by the moniker of the little tug boat. Someone surely has a sense of humour. How wonderful that you wrote a poem for it. It would be good if you could send a copy of your poem to the captain of that worker boat.
I remember a little skipping song from when I was a kid -
Down the Mississippi, where the boats go PUSH.
For some reason, and I don't remember why, they PUSH more than they TUG on the Mississippi - at least that is what I was told. LOL.

Thank you Carol. Great ideal. I'll try to do that. I guess they can do both well. At seaports, they are use to pull large boats through the harbor. Here, they push and pull barges.

This poem has a hint of humour and is almost like a caricature. I like these lines:
"His whistle blows, he'll chug-a-lug,
With captain smug behind the wheel."
Well done, Tom. I'm glad to be back after a long absence.

Everything is good, Tom. But I will not post as much as before but occasionally I will. All the best, friend.

I find myself going to your author notes first to see what new thing I can imbibe!
My favourite phrases are chug-a-lug and Ug the Tug!
Smile-worthy, Tom. I wonder why this poem makes me think of the Little Train that Could? :)

thank you Sonali, your the second one who mentioned that. Tony Fawkis did too. I guess it's just a little thing with a big heart, that gets it.

This was such a funny, lighthearted and well written pantoum, poem, Tom. Great name for a tiny tug, too, 'ey?
Your piece was so well rhymed, and made me laugh so hard, that I created a signature gif just for this poem and this poem alone to show my appreciation to you for creating it.

Pamtoums ate such fun as the repeating lines seem to take on a.life of their own. Sometime things people hardly notice make the best subjects for poetry. This little tugboat is one of those things

Hi, Treischel,
"Ugh the Tug" is a very good poem celebrating one of the work horses of Mississippi River commerce. It has good simple rhyme and rhythmic meter. As usual you handle this complicated form well. I believe that ":tough" is misspelled as "trough" in the penultimate stanza.
Your friend and colleague,
Preston

I have to give you six stars for the delight in this piece of whimsy! The pantoum form fits it perfectly! There is something reminiscent here of "The Story of the Engine that Thought It Could".
One small typo in 'So small for such a trough [tough] ordeal'

Firstly, thanks so much not only for how you and your muse came to write about this but also for your complete explanation of this style of poetry. I can see how the meaning of the lines shift as they are repeated. I thought it painted a colorful funny picture of the boat and its captain. I'm sorry but I can't offer up ways to improve upon a good piece once I've read it. And for me, some punctuation is personally better than others. So, great work!
