I read this before but failed to let you know how much I liked it. I was so pleased to see it won second in the love poem contest. Congratulations. It sings of love and thoughtfulness. There is tenderness among sweet memories and enduring affection. It is beautifully written and stirring to read.

Thanks so much, Adonna, for this wonderful review and your very kind comments. Thanks also for going back and reading this long-winded poem with only a two cents payout. I'm so pleased you enjoyed my musings with this poem. Also, thank you for the many bright stars!

Please accept my humble apology for missing a review for this xcptional Crown of Sonnets, Ray. I doubt I can say anything new in my review that hasn't been written, but please accept my praise for a work that may have been difficult to write, but the emotion and imagery can't help but affect me as a reader and touch my feelings as well.

I hold writers of crowns in very high esteem...especially ones written in blank verse. Such a long piece might tend to run on, but your outstanding poetic crafting makes the read a delight. I hope you are proud of your crown, and wish you the best of luck in the contest.
Smiles,
Kar :-)

Hi, Ray,
Thanks very much for this love song. The figurative language was delightful and it flowed without effort--I suppose it was iambic pentameter. I have not patience with counting. I had to reach for the meaning of only a couple abbreviations. I suppose before I read this I thought that there was some dictionary of Elizabethan English words but now think that the best way to write Shakespeare is to read Shakespeare.
Your friend and colleague.

A beautiful poem, filled with courage and hope for a future while fighting
a terrible scourge. I love that one gives hope to the other, it completes
the yin and yang of life. I would change nothing, and you deserve the six,
it is a marvelous poem.

mountainwriter-
This is wonderfully well done though I am never, I repeat never, going to write a sonnet, Shakespearean or otherwise, crown or not. I read this terrific series of poems mostly wondering how much it would have moved me had not the "stilted," in my opinion, language, been in the way. What century does poetry exist in? Seriously. Nobody talk likes the language in your poems, but many feel the things in your poems and I think that removed, poetic language limits the poem's appeal...to those here on this site. My overwhelming sense is...be bold, write in the language of your peers, the doctors, the pain, the loss, all of that. But that is me. I bow to the staggering effort of writing such a series, but then maybe it just flowed? Good, if it did.

Thanks
Wabigoon/Jeff

Although this genre is not naturally appealing to me, there is no doubt that much thought and emotion has crafted this post. Whether or not this comes easily to you, the effort is worthy...John

Thank you for sharing some of your process in creating this crown--you always make the work seem as if it happens effortlessly, even the most introspective versions. I admired your image-filled sonnets and abundant metaphors, including "symphony/ vault/ orchestra/ nectar/ quilt," and your use of alliteration, as with your "f's" for further intensity in the first sonnet. Best wishes in the love poem contest and in continuing to discern "life's path" -Joan

Dear Ray,

I'm not sure where to begin, except to say how much I admire your courage in writing this very personal piece which exudes love and pain with a thread of hope interwoven throughout to live on.

Your beautiful, masterfully penned crown of sonnets is so evocative, it enfolds the reader in its trance and takes us to those moments you describe so lovingly. I need not mention the accuracy of the mechanics of the blank verse, as it is perfect, or your excellent use of poetic devices, of which this work is full.

Thank you for sharing this. I cannot imagine what it took to write it, or the reliving of grief that accompanied the process. I want to say how lucky you were to have lived such a love, or quote Tennyson, but somehow, it seems trite. I will say, this is a most exquisite and profoundly loving tribute to your loved one, and I think that is the best thing about it.

Best of luck in the contest, my friend. I cannot imagine that you wouldn't win.

All my best,
Lena

LOVELY my dear poet. So calming and serene. I felt an inner peace while reading and the intensity of devotion and deep sincere love. At last dear friend, you MUST be related to Shakespere to right such a brilliant poem. liberty justice

This is a most beautiful sonnet and the powerful story of love within. I'm in awe and wished I had another six left as this so obviously deserves. Outstanding. All the best. Ulla:)
