Marilyn - This is incredible. All the horrors, laid out in verse. The sporadic rhyming shocks and raises the hair on the neck.
A frightening read. Prophetic. Hope people take heed. When those airplanes fall from the skies it will too late to look up and say, "What's that?"
God bless and my best,
Relda

I don't know anyone who could live off the land, totally. My husband is pretty good, but we are not young anymore so we would have to guide our sons and teach them, if we are still here, that is! Your poem is very thought provoking, I find myself looking around at the things we have and realise none would be any good without electricity. Not a pleasant thought, is it. Excellent piece of writing my friend. xsx Sandra

Hi Sandra. Thank you for reading and reviewing this free verse. I doubt many except the most hardy would be equipped to survive such a catastrophe. Certainly oldsters--of which I am one. Temporarily we are knocked off the grid for a few days in terrible storms, hurricanes and tornadoes, but these are regional storms and blackouts. Permanently off the grid, we'd have a tough time coping. It's an interesting topic to read about on line by "googling" it. Marilyn

How thought provoking! But I choose to live in faith that God not being able, or choosing not to prevent this crisis, will empower it as the key to the destined turning point I spoke of in my last review. For, that turning point must stir a change equal to the end of the rule of the dinosaurs and rise of us mammals!

And, I choose to enjoy my journey feeling I can help that New Millennium and Christ harvest; as well as gift light and hope to regenerate the ol' roots of this old Tree of knowledge and life, than re-cultivate Adamic and egotistic fears of mankind!

Thanks, again Marilyn. Very powerful and well put to stir! Blessings, Maureen*&*

Your warning is well taken. In this age of technology, it is more important than ever to prepare for the worst scenario. Human power must survive. Evi

Hi Evi. Thank you for your review of this piece and your comments. We would be lost without power, long term, because all communication would stop. Even the simplest tasks are performed by computers. It was Jax choice of image for the Picture This post which prompted this poem. So don't throw out your "real" books. We may need those page turners to read, as e-book would be useless if we are tossed off the grid. Marilyn

This is really well written, Marilyn, and really scary. You describe so well what would happen if suddenly we lose it all. You've done very well with free verse here. This is so deserving of a sixer! I'm happy to award it one. :>)

Hi Connie. Thank you for your wonderful review, rating, and comments. It is scary. We would be helpless. That's what the Preppers are all about. We'll think positive that it will never happen. I do think it's important to stock up, though, even for temporary off the grid circumstances, like storms. Marilyn

It is a scary time to think about, but think about it we must. There will be all kinds o thinks that are evil which will go on. I am not a prepper either, but I do know if it happens, God will see me through. Blessings., Patricia.

Hi Patricia. Thank you for your very nice review. We are vulnerable, but faith will help us one way or the other. We'll think positively. Marilyn

Awesome job, Marilyn! It's true that we're all deep into the technology nowadays. Almost too deep. I thought your poem had a rather post-apocalyptic vibe to it. What will we do if (and when) the power goes down? This is a scary thought, but it is definitely something to think about. ~Ninja

Hi Ninja. I am floored by the fact that as a young person you are so savvy. This is a topic that many/most people don't know/care about. You are ahead of your time in knowledge and social concerns. Good for you. Thank you by your review, rating and comments. Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, here in the UK power demands will outstrip capacity in the not so distant future. They think wind turbines are the answer, I think they believe in Santa too. Your poem has highlighted what will happen soon and the first thing to go will be all the electronics we grow up with. We are in for a shock. Loved the free verse.
Bless you
John

Hi John. Thank you for your fine review and comments. Some/many people go blissfully along and don't have a clue what's going on. Maybe it's better to be that way for some, but I'm not one of those people. I am a news junkie and like to know about things. Blessings back to you. Marilyn

Hi Jax. Thank you for reading and reviewing my poem. Actually, the image you selected for the last post of Picture This prompted this poem. The news has reported being "knocked off the grid" for some time and the catastrophe that would ensue because of it. So the image you chose was not too far afield from the truth. Don't throw away those "real" books because e-books and electronics won't be there to enjoy. If we want to read, we will have to go back to holding the real thing in our hands and turning the pages. I had 1000 books in my library, but when we moved the last time, I downsized to about 500. LOVE my books. (*<*)

Good morning, Marilyn;

I was curious about your title, "When The Grid goes Down," and realized why when I read your author's notes. I wasn't sure I wanted to read your free verse poem after that, it was so scary!

Well... I read it and have to stop a moment and calm down. I congratulate you for writing it, Marilyn, since people do not seem to give it much thought! I wish that it could be read and heard over the airwaves instead of only FanStory Members.

Again...Well done, Marilyn, and I commend you for writing such a hard poem (it must have taken a lot out of you to do it) that I refer to as an article, it is so important.

Blessings,
Nan:))

Hi Nan. Thank you for reading, reviewing and the wonderful rating you have given this poem. It's been on the news as a possibility and a vulnerability--being knocked off the grid. You can search the internet for it. They're quite up front about it. Everything we do is connected to the power grid, even our basic needs. However, let's not let it ruin our day. Blessings and hugs to you. Marilyn
