How awesome, Tom. Both the photos of the waterfall and your dizains.
I could feel the power of the water in the poem, and the greater power of the ice and cold that restrained it. Excellent story telling here.

Thank you very much Rose. It is amazing that the ice can do that. The hum I referred to is also the waterfall still running under the ice, but much muted.

Tom,
I do like this form - perhaps not as much as a few others, but it seemed quite appropriate for this subject. It was a little bit foreign on the tongue...which went well with your great -- amazing -- content. It was hard to finally begin reading the poem because I spent so much time on the pics! I can't believe the entire falls themselves freeze. WOW~ So much that people can walk under and around.
Thanks for sharing!!!

Thank you for your winter duet in both your photographs and your Dizains. It's amazing to imagine how cold it must be, and for how long, to freeze an entire waterfall! I admired your rhymes, personification and alliteration of "f's" in addition to the vivid imagery. Hugs and happy weekend- Joan

Wow!That is amazing that a waterfall could be halted by
winter's freeze. What a difference it shows in the pictures.
Good job on the double dizain Tom. xx Nancy

Thank you Nancy. It is amazing, most years the falls itself remains flowing in a slushy mix, but this year it froze competely.

Amazing photos, Tom. How cold does it have to get to be able to freeze water that flows with such vigour as these falls? Nature is really incredible. Your poem is perfect for your photos, (of course!) I really enjoyed reading it. Wonderful! xsx Sandra.

I have seen the winter version of this on this site before I am sure. Perhaps you used it with something else. I like the flow of the form that rolls sweetly along like the running water of the non-frozen months.
The difference between the two photos is amazing and your poem has managed to capture that in the language without changing the rhythm.

Thank you Pantygynt. I am pleased you liked it. Yes, I used a similar photo of the winter scene he on another piece.
Comment from NicciFaye
Great photography. I especially like the bottom picture. The opening stanza is quite powerful with smooth rhyming. The alliteration of the 't's and 's's are beautiful and makes the second stanza stand on its own. The closing two stanza's are wonderful and it ends off as a great story ending of winter's icy tale. Excellent poem.

Both scenes are extraordinary. In winter all is frozen and stagnant in Spring it comes alive and roars of excitement for the new warmer season

Tom, those images are breathtaking! The power of the flowing water fall is certainly matched by the majesty of the frozen one! I'm slightly envious that it's within driving distance for you!
I am bathing in beauty as I read this gem!
Your wording creates magic!
Such power locked within the Ice! - yes, like locked in Energy! Perfect phrasing!
Where water's flow is overcome,
Old Winter's grip is like a vice. - winter's grip! Yes, it won't release the water
Beneath, the muted currents hum, - I love the idea of the hidden song
before their songs to cold succumb. (glorious!)
For once, a tumbling torrent raged - what an alliteration AND image!
into this chasm deep, unbound.
Where summer symphonies were staged, - alliteration and metaphor, amazing
and none would guess it could be caged, - haha! So true!
cold Winter's will was most profound. - Such a fascinating word choice "will"
Breathtaking personification, alliteration, very musical and impactful!
Now flows are frozen fast today,
where once fell mighty waterfall,
and even little children play - great concrete imagery
beneath that frosted crystal wall, - I love "Chrystal wall"
while veils of icy mists enthrall. - and this line again, romantic perfection!
As we recall a thund'rous roar. - engaging hearing the most effective way!
the cascade now is hardened ground.
It seems, not dangerous anymore,
since Nature's made a frozen floor. - fantastic alliteration and image
Yes, Winter's will is most profound. - great refrain
Stunning poem written in a fascinating form! Thank you for sharing this experience!
