What a glorious experience. Thanks for sharing. I love the descriptions: "With taffeta swathed round the crown" - good grief, are they still making taffeta? That's how much I know. The best decoration is the: "pink cabbage rose." This is a five star entry for the humor conveyed, the descriptive words used, and a logical flow to the story line. Thank you so much for sharing.

Dear Friend, Thank you for your review of my poem, "A new hat" and the five stars. This was great fun to write as it recalled days long ago, full of laughter on creative occasions with some fellow hat enthusiasts. Yes they do still make taffeta. I use it for dolls' clothes and patchwork and have a large "stash" of many different colors to work with. Thanks again for the review. A surprise for me. cheers Cass

What a delightful poem. Such creative writing and talent to make your own hat for a wedding you were attending.
I could actually place myself in the hat shop and see the actual hat you made!
Thanks for sharing.

Dear Friend , thank you for your review and the five stars. the REAL hat that inspired the poem wasn't quite as ornate as the poem suggests, but it did look nice and it was wearable throughout Summer to church and to an outdoor party. The response to this piece is a definite indication there are a few closet milliners or hat lovers in our midst. Thanks again cheers Cass

This was a delightful entry. The hat of your memory. In Jamaica, the sisters on Sunday morning were hats so colorful and tropical. I was reminded by your poem how exciting they each come to church expressing and showing off their hats. All the best

Dear Friend, thank you for your review and the five stars. Yes, a new hat is quite an event, to anyone in any country or clime who likes to look their best. I can imagine all the Jamaican ladies with their Sunday creations trying not to be vain, but chuffed like anything to have a new chapeau. thanks again cheers Cass

This poem is "delicious"! I leaned forward to get more of it. I haven't done it for a while--who knows why! but I've just found another poem to add to my FanStory collection.

Dear Serendipity, Thank you for your review and the AWESOME SIX STARS. It seems that people appreciate my sense of humour more than I realise. I am highly complimented to have a work of mine added to your personal collection. The hat that started this was an OP Shop find that I purchased and refurbished to wear to a wedding. All it took was a ribbon around the crown and a small bunch of artificial flowers on the brim. My imagination ran riot in the poem which was great fun. Thanks again cheers Cass

Hahahaha! G'day Cass. This is a beauty mate. I actually read it as a limerick and that is so cool. Beautifully desriptive and the imagery is wonderful. I have to admit that I rarely have that problem as mine last 20 years generally until my wife throws it away and says she has no idea where I put it lol.

Love your work mate.

Cheers Fez

Dear Fez, thank you for your review and the AWESOME SIX STARS. Your wife sounds like a veritable Pearl of tact and diplomacy.
Who else would put up with a hat ( or anything else for that matter) being worn for 20 years, before "losing it " ?
When I wrote this I didn't realise some of it was in Limerick mode. It just came off the pen that way, so that was how I put it on paper. So good to hear from you. thanks again cheers Cass

What a great story, Cass, told in perfect, fantastic rhymes! I'm so behind - trying desperately to catch up. So glad I didn't miss this one. Your hat sounds fabulous, even if slightly exaggerated :)
Love that you made one for the shop girl too!

Dear Carol, thank you for your review and the five stars. At last some one realises I was exaggerating. The hat that I did do for a wedding was an OP shop find refurbished with a ribbon and a bunch of artificial flowers. It did look nice though and I wore it throughout summer to church and another outdoor party. You know how some shop assistants are just TOO sweet. So I thought to myself " What would her face look like if, after she'd made some Oh so sugary remark about how loooovely it was, I presented her with one too.?" Just a bit of fun cheers Cass

Dear Marilyn thank you for your review and the SIX stars. Yes, it was a "playful" write. the original hat was an Op Shop find tissied up for a wedding , with a ribbon swathed around the crown and a small bunch of artificial flowers on the brim. It did look nice and I wore it to church several times through summer. the poem DID exaggerate just a bit, but -- Weeeelll? Thaks again cheers Cass

DEar Linda ,thank you for your review and the five stars. The hat I made was a remake from an OP Shop find that I refurbished with a ribbon round the crown and a bunch of artificial flowers. It was a very successful effort though and I wore it to church and to an outdoor party and was complimented. so glad you like the poem. thanks again cheers Cass

LOL Bad luck on the hat selection however it seems you were most enterprising as a result of not finding what you required.
Hey, if you want something done, do it yourself, right?!
Right!
Now, to your delightful poem.
Your limerick based sing song write extended wonderfully down my screen as you told of your romp through hat making.
My grandmother was a milliner in her day and made some fine hats. Unfortunately all that was left to pass down was an old hat case which I treasure.
Your colourful embarkment was a superb read and I particularly liked the extended style stanzas...they had a real jiggety jig and around again kind of feel to them.
My fave stanza the satin and fur and the agonizing trim decision haha. This reminds me of the poet toiling over which word to use to give the best impact. This can definitely chew up a lot of time. More often than not, the finished product is in the tweaking of last minute detail.
Great job...I'll be checking out more of your work. Highly entertaining.
Cheers P
