Wow. The title grabbed my interest first. The story is a well known one, but I appreciate the sensory detail you have added to Peter's experience. The descriptions are great, the setting is well described. Your characters are developed sufficiently to make the scene believable, in my estimation. You would have to check someone who is not acquainted with the bible story to see if your characters are sufficiently developed for a newbie.
Thanks for sharing!

Very nice piece, I loved a lot of your references some of my favorites:

*I had forgotten the lash of the wind, the height of the waves and the darkness of the night.
*wrecked on the sharp rocks of reality
* Some rock ... sinking like a stone!
The only typo I saw was a missed spaced in between "ignorant;I", it probably did not copy over correctly, I have that problem too.

I hope you a blessed day, thanks for touching mine!

Ah, so He knew what He was doing all the time and He did answer your prayer; so it was not a stupid prayer after all. Look at the faithful follower He has reaped in his directions to call Him when ever you need Him. He wants us to call on Him for help.. Your message is amply demonstrated I feel, Giddy

Very effective use of metaphor here with the "lash of the wind, the height of the waves and the darkness of the night".

Oh GOD, I can't stand it! JESUS! JESUS JESUS! Save me!

A bit too melodramatic for my Episcopal upbringing-- but to each his own. Enjoyed the song and magnificent scenery in the video.

Have you seen the movie "Oh God" with John Denver and George Burns? Made in 1977, but the message extends to every year and every denomination and those who don't believe either.

Hugs,
Me.

Thanks...I know of the movie but try to stay away from Hollywood's attempts at making Christianity palatable for all and profitable to them. Thanks for reading and commenting....CK

Deniz22 very well written. So very true He is not done with any of us, and He will halt the waves and quell the winds. If we listen He will tell. Regards Mabaker

Beautiful retelling of the Apostle Peter's encounters with faith, the sudden loss of faith and the redemption offered by the divine forgiveness offered by Jesus. Now think on this, the supernatural power of Satan the devil was at work even in the presence of Jesus right here on the earth. That power is still at work and he is robbing people of their faith every time they get over confident and think that they are standing when upon further review they find that they have already fallen. we must remain on our guard and do what Peter did. When we see that we have fallen call out for God's help and assistance.

Good thoughts, brother. Everyone who has trusted Christ has entered into an eternal relationship with Him (John 5:24) Here Peter experiences the truth that God is faithful even when we are sinking. A variety of testings strengthens biblical faith without breaking it. Every baby takes a tumble or two while learning how to walk. So too in the spiritual life...Peer builds a life of faith which continues to bless believers even today. To God be the glory and may we too, grow up in Christ. Blessings, Dennis

Hi there,

A finely written testament and witness here. God does not turn his back on those who in the last moments repent if that is sincere or genuine. Is it ever too late to find God and seek salvation?

Good thought provoking piece.
All the best

Thank you for reading and reviewing so kindly...much appreciated. "Is it ever too late to find God and seek salvation?"

First, it should be noted that Peter had an ongoing relationship with Jesus. This incident of being rescued is part of the experiential side of a faith relationship built on scriptural terms.

Secondly, many, many scriptures warn against being presumptuous with God's love and grace. We are all called to believe on Jesus Christ in this life while we can. Proverbs 1 clearly states God will not answer the prayer of those who die outside of faith in Christ. Such people are described in Scripture as "crucifying again the Son of God".
Salvation is freely offered to all, (John 5:24) but those who spurn God's mercy simply will not have it, in this life or the life to come.

    God bless, Dennis

Hi Linda, everyone who believes in Jesus is in an eternal relationship with Him (John 5:24) Yet we often feel like we have let God down so badly that He will reject us after all. But God is always true and will not take back His promises no matter what. He is always working to exercise our faith in His word so that our faith goes stronger, just like physical exercise makes our body stronger. We can and should call on Him in all circumstances and especially encouraged to do so when it seems we are sinking into a sea of trouble. Thank you, dear sister, for reading and commenting. YBIC, Dennis :)

When Peter started sinking in the water, he felt he failed God. He even felt his prayers were "stupid", but God still answered his prayers, reached out his hand and saved him. Thank goodness we are all saved by grace, nothing of ourselves. The poems, Master of the Wind" was a nice ending to the story.
