I found this poem both powerful and poignant, and it left me feeling so sad. Sad for the beautiful bird who watched over his master's final resting place. Such a strong bond between them, that even death could not break it. This was beautifully descriptive and well written, and the photograph enhanced your words. Very well done to evoke such emotion from the reader.

-The photographs are excellent.
-Thank you for the author notes.
-Excellent poem with vivid imagery and a story about this devoted hawk.
-It is dedicated because "His master lies below in solemn peace."
-Good use of that repeated line that links the beginning of the poem to the end.
-Good beginning:
"On guard upon the obelisk ... he waits."
-A few other lines I like:
"His eyes are sharp; he cannot be deceived--
His master taught him well. He stands alert."
"Ten days and nights he perches on the tomb;
No fiend or foul can lure him from his task."
-Very good addition to the book.

A very emotional, yet inspirational poem, rspoet. Stories of similar events have always fascinated me, so this one has really hit the target. My cousin, a one-time carer at a nursing home, has often related to gatherings of friends or family, about the Persian cat that lived in the home. She apparently rested all night on the doormat always, outside the room of a patient who had, or was about to die. How do they know?

Both eerie and comforting. To think of anyone standing guard over a tomb is touching, to imagine a bird, it is inspiring.
Thanks, great presentation and depth to this poem.

Very well written poetry. An interesting subject which is not usually written about in poetry. It is also interesting to know that a hawk will protect his master's last resting place.

This is a well-metered blank verse that certainly presents a stoic and proud guardian. The ideas of the demons, ghouls, and harpies coming for us makes me want a falcon of my own. Nice poem.
