This essay about bull riding is informative, but it is not fiction, a story or part of a story. I'm rating it based on the contest directions.

Go back and read the directions it doesn't have to be fiction it has to be about a sport. bull riding is a sport by the way as racing , foot ball and others

"This is to be a sport's themed story or novel beginning...
At least 1000 words in length, but no more than 2500.
I'm looking for sports and not games. So, I'll say okay to golf
but no to chess. Extreme sports, pro wrestling, arm wrestling,
volleyball, basketball, tennis and even bowling are all fine.
No to billiards or anything played on a board or computer.
You get the idea, right?
Yes, it can be fantasy, horror, science fiction, romance, adventure,
or whatever genre you can dream up. But, sports must be central
to the story. Don't have a spaceship beam up a basketball player
and have him forget about basketball.
Your story doesn't have to be complete. You can write part one of a
longer story or, as I indicated, this can be the beginning of a novel."

rodeo is sports

I love the picture. I love the story. You are right. Most bull riders start as little boys who dream of riding the bulls. It is a very dangerous sport and requires a lot of dedication,. It odes not offer the perks like football and other sports. But the rider of the year is what most riders are content with. Great work.

what is wrong with this story?

Yes folks bull (Should there be a comma or two here?)the Cowboys (cowboys)
This is a hard hitting, fast paced article much, very much like bull riding itself. I can tell you are enthused by the abundance of information; and sentences that seem to race each other to dish out the facts.

I would probably only see a little tiny town bull riding event just because that's what available unless I wanted to spend money and go see a big one. I can't imagine doing something like that. You did a great job friend

CRW, this From The Sport's Desk contest entry fulfills the contest requirements nicely. Cowboying is definitely a different cultural experience. An interesting sport for sure. Nice work. All the best in the contest. :0 GracieAnn

Yep, bull riders definitely earn every dollar they make, ten times over, and more than not end up with permanent injuries that last them a life time. But I can bet you that there are not many who say they would do or have done anything different. Great job. :-)

once a cowboy always a cowboy

A lady after my own heart. If I hadn't been smashed up in a draft, I'm pretty sure that I may have gone on the circuit, because that was the way that I grew up. There's a saying "It's not if you get smashed up riding bulls, but--- how bad?" Typo in the 7th chapter " were there chaps" instead of "wear their chaps" , but that may be because of different spellings in different countries.

I felt like this was written by a bull rider who knows the circuit very well. For sure, a tough sport and bad injuries happen all the time. A great sport for the adrenaline junkie.
Best wishes in the contest.

You've written about bull riding and rodeo many times in the past. You know your material, that's for certain.
Your post needs paragraph breaks and comma interjections throughout. It made for a rougher then needed ride.
Best of luck in the contest. John

Comment from Dean Kuch
Well, I know how one can have control over the situation, and they wouldn't have to worry either, Country. Just stay off the dang bulls back! LOL.
As you know, my daughter is BIG into the rodeo circuit. She's also learning to rife...brace yourself...BULLS! Needless to say, I ain't too keen on the idea. But she is eighteen and can legally do as she pleases. But how many bull riders do you know who are women? I can't think of any off the top of my head.
It is, as you say, a much more dangerous, much rougher sport than professional football, no doubt about that. And at least we don't kill the poor bulls after the cowboys ride 'em like the do in Spain with the matadors and bull fights.
You've certainly proven by writing this that you know your stuff about bull riders specifically, and the rodeo circuit in general.
Well done, Country, and good luck in the contest.

Oh no holy molley talk her out of riding! There are my dear friend a lot of bull riders that are female that have taken up the sport to prove to man that they are just as good as they are. Yep it is true. Hope she has good insurance for those delicate bones and a supply of daddy's understanding and support for her efforts. Who talked her into getting on a bull in the first place? Wasn't me! There are bull riding schools is she going to one of them?I think I need my coffee to calm me down! wow, she is really going to do this? Get the linament ready.
-
I don't know how serious she is about doing it long-term, Country, but she definitely wants to do it. Shane and Gabe are both champion bull riders in this area and they're teaching her. She did volunteer work with them at the Double R Ranch & Riding Trails, so that's where they all met.
As far as anyone talking her into it, she made up her own mind to try. She's bull-headed (no pun intended) that way, like her mother...

what is Shanes and Gabes last names? I know SHANE PROCTOR
-
I'm not sure. I'll have to ask her later on today. She isn't here at the moment.

WHAT TIME IS IT THERE

4:07 am...

SAME HERE SO WHY ARE YOU STILL UP?i WENT TO BED SLEEP FOR A BIT AND HAD TO GET UP CAUSE i COULDN'T GO BACK TO SLEEP
-
I can go for days without sleep, Country. Today will make day three straight for me. I have very bad nightmares--VERY BAD, I'd rather stay awake as long as I can...
-
GOSH MY DEAR FRIEND SORRY TO HEAR OF THIS WISH THERE WAS SOMETHING I COULD SAY OR DO TO MAKE THEM GO AWAY. I GET THEM NOW AND AGAIN
-
I've learned to deal with it, Country. I can't take medications that help me sleep because they will affect my heart medication. It's much better to be alive and unable to sleep than it is to be six-feet under.
Besides, I get a LOT of late-night work done, and I write constantly. That keeps my mind occupied, for the most part.
As for the night terrors, those just come with being a manic depressive, or so I've been told. So to deal with it, I just write a lot.
Oh, Shane's last name is Workman. My daughter just walked in the door...
