I remember writing one of these in my Littoral collection a few months ago. I had a friend some years ago who bred these little chaps. The house was full of them. What with that kitten the other days you're going animal crackers.

This poem celebrates both your stepdaughter and her cute dog. Your notes on the history of this breed of dog are interesting. Who said we can't have joy in small packages. Well done, Tom.

Hi, Terschel,
Superior work masterfully using the form of one of the great poetic works of Western literature. Being me I appreciated the history of the name of the breed. I am not much of a dog person but I am sure that Jodi adores him. A dog in a pocket book certainly calls for a second look.
As far as I could tell you perfectly followed the Terza Rima form. The rhythm and rhyme were excellent.
Your Friend and colleague,
Preston

I love the Cavalier's... they are so adorable and have the best personalities for apartments. So beautiful.

But I truly have the REAL pocket pooch. He's now seven years old... and only weighs in at 4.5 pounds... His name is Sir Clyde. He's a 'teacup' (not a real classification, according to the AKC) Yorkie... (but don't tell HIM that) Because they are a thing.
I wouldn't suggest buying one this small... and indeed, I didn't. My best friend bought him for me after the poor little guy nearly died... long story, which I"ll have to tell in a story some day... but needless to say, he's mine and he's only about six inches tall but THINKS he's a Rottie. ;)

Your poem is adorable, as is the pooch... I just love dogs! I'll never be without one. ;)
Well done Tom

Thank you Cat. Here's to Charlie and Sir Clyde. Little fellows with big hearts.

My, your family loves pets! Thanks for being forever the teacher and giving us details about the Spaniels and the Terza Rima, plus your montage of Jodi's photos. I enjoyed the tercets and the couplet plus the rhyme scheme. It's fun to see how dogs and their owners often resemble one another. Here's to tiny Charlie! -Joan

Cute pup! Who started the trend for toting pups. I think it was Paris Hilton. But from your daughter's story- a Master's to boot- Charlie is no fashion accessory, but a valued pet. It may just be me, but I keep wanting to say "He'll fit in a cosmetic bag". A good poem. Thanks for sharing.

Can't say I like Terza Rima, but I adore the subject matter! I hope she can get a little house soon with its own yard - makes managing dogs so much easier!

Exceptionally amusing rhymes in this tercet! I had several chuckles along the way! It's not an easy form and you have woven the rhyme scheme artfully, though 'To keep her company' doesn't supply the rhyme for the following tercet. Perhaps something like, 'As I rightly surmise' would do it. I think 'yuppy/unhappy' was my favorite pairing. Noel Coward could not have done better!

Very nice piece and I'm sure that your daughter is thrilled. Pets make life a bit nicer and softer around the edges and that's often what you need after a long day at work. Perfect breed for her needs (and wants)!
