I always like nature poems. They help to remind us to appreciate the wonders around us.
Great picture as well, and thanks for pointing out the turtles. Would've missed them otherwise. Nice job. :)

Interesting notes. Well written poem that clearly depicts the sanctity of birds. Uses phrases such as "ancient countenance is bold," and "impressive as it soars" to better illustrate their many highly valued qualities.

I enjoyed reading this well done, informative poem about the Great White Egret. Egrets are magnificent birds and always exciting to see them at water's edge. Nicely done. Marilyn/BeasPeas

Wonderful poem about a beautiful bird. I like the reference to dragon blood, and the resemblance to a pterodactyl. I saw one on the coast of Ventura County a few days ago, stalking around in the dry brush back from the sand. It caught and ate a lizard as I watched. Anyway, your poem flows effortlessly and with confident rhyme and meter.

Thank you Carol. They are amazing. They stalk the shallows and use their beak as a spear.

I used to live in a place with a giant cypress tree where lots of egrets roosted. It was amazing to see the white birds amongst the dark green foliage.

Hi, Treischel,
I have to agree with your first reviewer that "White Bird" is an exceptional poem. The forms complicated structure and rhyme scheme are executed perfectly as far as I a can tell. Its rhyme and figurative language are excellent (a specter in the hinterlands). The allusions to mythology are an added bonus. Good luck in the contest.
Your friend and colleague,
Preston

You did extremely well in portraying the mysticism of this strange bird. It has a haunting harrowing appearance that daunts me. I even think it's capable of magical and fantastic deeds. Well done, Tom.

Wow--two of my favorite creatures--the egret/heron (that along with pelicans remind me of Pterodactyls) and the turtle! I was thrilled by your referring to the myths in your Kyrielle Sonnet. I very much enjoyed your rhymes and repeats as well.
Big cheers- Joan

Being a Floridian, Egrets are a daily fare. Yes. They do look like pterodactyls when they fly. They wander where I live from yard to yard eating the insects. They're exquisite when they're all roosting in one tree.
