I could never understand American football as opposed to soccer. I suppose that's the cultural divide between the British and the Americans. But then it is a vigorous sport, good for discipline and to build strength-resilience. Well done, Tom.

When my son was about 8 years old, I asked him... "Landon, do you want to play a sport this year? Or what do you want to do? Art? Music? What would you like to do?"
He looked at me and he said... "Sports? Like what?" and I said, "I don't know... soccer, football..."

He looked at me dead serious and said, "Mom. You know, they HIT you in football."
lol
I said. " You have a point there."

I knew right then and there he was going to be an intellectual. ;)
LOL

lol Your grandson looks considerably bigger than my son... even now... He's 6'2"... just now weighs 160 lbs. ;) at the age of 27. (just now.)
LOL
Nice poem... I hope he's enjoying himself. The grass is making me itch from here. ;)
(plus, it's still 97 degrees here) ug

It's lovely that our grandchildren keep active in sport. So many children sit in front of their games machines and never get out. My 7 year-old grandson is into football, (English football looks different to the game your grandson plays.) He is also learning to play golf with his father, and grandmother! Wonderful poem, Tom, I think writing about our grandchildren is lovely. :) Sandra, xsx

How lovely that you were able to get picture of him playing. I can not stand English rugby or American football, don't like Soccer much either! Nice poetic form with some rhyme, you've captured the excitement of the game well. Faye

Centre aligned as you suggest the effect is the form of the shape of the ball! Clever that and you left that out for us to discover. You don't have to understand the game (and I don't) to understand the thrill the kids get from playing it (and I do). In the part of the world where I live it is rugby football that is the main game, played with a similarly shaped ball but rather less armour plating.

Thank you Pantygynt. Yes, I did admire those Rugby players. The games were much more similar about 100 years ago.

A lovely poem, the pride of a grandfather shining through. It is one of the proudest moments when you see you grand children shines in what they do. Excellent photo once again.

Thank you for posting your Three by Eight and giving us some of the history of the French form. I liked the shape of the poem with its center alignment and the repeat of the title for emphasis plus the rhymes. How neat you could also share the photograph of your grandson playing defensive linebacker at the tender age of 11--but a veteran! Big, literal cheers- Joan

I like the football shape to go with the poem. I get tired of football, football, football though if my grandson played, I would go.
