This is a very nice free style poem. I especially
like the touches of rhyme used throughout. I
am a rhyming writer and miss it when not
present so, of course, this read just right. A
very sad love Ballard and your heartbreak was
very evident...

As I was reading this, I could get into the motion until I got to this stanza.....
But, when I look into the mirror
I see the reason that you're gone
Your memory surrounds me
And I cry all night long

All through your poem/song you had a beautiful abcb rhyme scheme going until this stanza. If you changed the last line to read I cry all through the night til dawn or I cry until dawn or I cry each night til dawn. You would bring this stanza right back into that abcb rhyme scheme. If that is what you are attempting. The words are wonderful. The story is wonderful. Your choice of artwork is great. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your work.

Wasn't going after an abcb rhyme scheme. This was written Free Style. See notes. Appreciate your comments and support however.

Hi Brett - you say this poem is in free style, well I see good abcb rhyme throughout. Another good lyric about lost love which you are very good at. I enjoyed the read - keep writing. Warm regards Dorothy x

Nice lyrics, my friend, and quite touching. You can feel the loss of the singer as he bemoans the loss of the woman he loves. He is honest with himself, looking into the mirror to see what she saw, and commiserates with her, and yes, it seems, he would like another chance. Wouldn't we all? Great job,
Rhonda

Oh so heartbreaking, and yes lyrics that work so well as a country ballad. Set to music it would be so good. I would love to hear it sung.

Thanks for sharing.

Although freestyle, this poem and a smooth rhyme and meter, changing only in the last lines. It laments a lost love with the 'first person' taking responsibility for the breakup.

Lovely words good description of utter heartbreak. Love never dies we just learn to live with the hurts the guilt and the betrayals.
But true love is eternal. I am a widow now and I know I may love again but it will never be full love.

Hello Brett,

Love that lasts forever/Is so hard to find ...... this is so true. I had my share of love gone wrong and it's very hard and painful, that is why it is called a broken heart, the heart actually hurts. I like the lyrics very much and I like your free verse style, it is my style too. Good job!

indeed, love does die hard...
obsession dies even harder it seems ;)
a country tune lament...
I used to hear these a lot in Oklahoma...
and when I was a kid, i'd hear Conway sing a few
George Jones sing them to Tammy Wynette
...
yeah... it never worked for them either :(

well stated Brett... you're better off without her.
*hands Brett a beer*
;)
Loved it

I liked this straight-forward treatment that allows the writer and reader to feel the pain of a lost love. Been there, done that. And still think about it 35 years later.
