This is what I call a 'knowledge' poem in that it instructs the reader with rhyming words about historical events. Just image a computer that fills a whole room, now we have a computerised cell phones that measure the size of a wallet! Well done, Tom.

Bravo! Bravo!

Wonderful rhythm and rhyme and a story that we
all should know. I took a course in computer in
1970 and was amazed at how they took a board
with holes in it, patterned of course and turn it
into readable ledger. I really enjoyed my trip into
the past and back to the future which we seem to
be in while still in the present. Time flies...Thanks
for a grand read.

A very interesting way to relate the invention of the computer. My relation with my computer is very similar to my ex-wife, one minute I love it, and the next, I'm planning the hole I'm going to bury the body in. A good poem with some very inventive rhymes, that tells an interesting tale.

From something that was so benign,
Some software tools became divine.
The world was soon completely changed,
Amazed, improved, and rearranged.

Isn't that the truth??!!! Ain't it amazing what a little bit of technology and brainpower can do? STAGGERS THE IMAGINATION!!

Great poem!

The computer has indeed changed the Modern world. Is it for the better? Good question. Seems the answer to that question is yet to be played out. Well written poem, and notes are interesting too. Would probably site their source though. Probably Wikipedia.

Thank you Brett. Actually the source was my own experience and knowledge, having worked for Univac/ Sperry Univac/ Sperry Rand/ Unisys/ Loral/ Paramax/ Lockheed Martin (all the same company, but bought out several times) ,. I worked in the company for 44 years.

The mind boggles--but I salute your poetic prowess.
My head feels like a throbbing wet sponge (a sinus infection) so to comprehend the complexities of this style right now is doubtful.
I admire your desire to conquer and share new styles.

A magnificent history and literature leeson both in the poem itself and in the copious notes. I cannot help but find interesting a development that has not only taken place entirely within my lifespan, there are plenty of those, but one that has taken place almost entirely parallel to my lifespan, I was born in 194. To celebrate a technological achievement with a poem of unusual form is something I believe only you would have thought of doing and gone on to do do it. The form is fascinating the content life changing. Got to be worth my first six of the week.

Thank you very much Pantygynt. I'll be filing this with my corporate poems. I love History and have more stories to tell. I appreciate the compliment. Of course the stars made my day.

Excellent way to describe the history of the computer and his role in our lives today. The wonder of communicating with someone thousands of miles away in an instant. A super sonnet with lots of effort put together, I would be exhausted.
