Aw, well, i"m not much on bars... but yeah, lots of people do go to them... i'm more of a quiet room, by myself, ... picture... an art studio. lol
I liked the ambiance in this poem. It sets a mood, and we all take a drink...
and drown our sorrows with you.
well done Brett

G'day Brett. Nice work mate. So many people have been in that bar after things go bad. I liked this and once again I think it could become a country song. Very well done Sir. Cheers Fez

I admired your free style poem with rhymes about a lost love. I found it lyrical and think it should be set to music. The picture you selected established the mood well. Hugs- Joan

I love it! There's always a special place that brings back old loves. Sometimes it hurts but you just can't help but smile. Great work!

Brett ...

You have no idea how familiar I am with this scene! I played lead guitar in a country band for over 45 years. I've seen hundreds of memories drowned in a shot of JD, cursed over a Bud light and memories searched for but not found at the bottom of a glass. the juke box tells so many tales, but most of them are the same story ... just different names and rhymes. I enjoyed this so much. I have performed in many dozens of these bars ... probably hundreds.

Great job and brought back memories of 45 years of my life. Still feeling a bit melancholy! Great write!

Being a Country music lyricist, and journalist, I know exactly what you are talking about here. I have seen many of these places myself out there on the road. Seems to be one everywhere you look. Glad this brought back many good memories for you. And, you are so right with what you have stated about them.

Hi Brett,

You did a nice job in writing this poem. I found it to be very interesting. I liked the picture you chose to go with it too. I always enjoy reading your work. You're always so good at writing all kinds of different things. You're a very talented man.

Awesome poem! I smiled after reading the first stanza...most folks have a regular spot, nothing fancy to the eye, but elaborate to the heart and memories, and you captured that perfectly. I love your free verse, the fact that you put your feelings out there, that you fought back tears, and how you fantasized about getting her back. Beer numbs it temporarily, but it always returns. I feel your pain!

Great poetry. I don't drink but I know why some one will drink some beers to forget the pain of the dying love. Its even harder to se your love one with another in front of you.

This is a poem most of us can relate to, unfortunately. Breaking up is hard to do as the song says. This is a very well written poem and I could feel the poets pain in each word. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Brett - a good free verse about love lost, with good rhyme at the end of the last three lines of each stanza. Like much of your poetry this has a sing-song quality and reads easily. Perfect picture to accompany. Warm regards Dorothy x
