I am always amazed at how many different forms of poems there are. A Pushkin Sonnet. Something else learned today.
Squirrels do deserve to be written about. Just like your poem says, they're real acrobats.
Thanks for sharing. :)

Another great poem in your collection of Pushkin sonnets. This one resounds in a buzz of ceaseless activity by these hyper maniacs. And that's the right word for their psychological psyche as they are always on the move. Well done, Tom.

Pushkin is no doubt turning in his grave ove the pentameters! When I was at school and that was a long time ago all soonets that I ever saw were presented in a 14 line block, like this. The presentation of the Shakespearean sonnet as three quatrain stanzas and a couplet I had never seen until I came to Fanstory.

The division by content has of course always been there but not the visual division. Can you tell me whether you have come across it elsewhere and, if so is it an American practice?

Your sonnet is of course a perfect example of what you are putting across. I would expect nothing less.

Thank you Pantygrnt. It is not so much an American as a more modern adaptation.

Hi Tom,
Ok, Ok, I have a HUGE fondness for squirrels, I must admit! :)
I used to tell my kids, "I love you, more than the squirrel loves the nut" ;)
and so on... you know, "more than the ocean loves the shore..." ;)

This sonnet (which, of course, doesn't feel like one.. another Pushkin) feels so free
and natural... I guess that's what I like about this sort. (Not quite as free as the one you posted last night ;) ) but free, nevertheless.

I like your use of hurry/scurry within the second to the last line...
I think your spelling of Trapeze is incorrect (I believe it has a 'z')
unless you're using some obscure English thing that Gynt taught you. ;)
lol

Do you have black squirrels where you are? We have some here in Texas, they are quite lovely and seem to be wearing little Tuxedoes on their backs. ;)

Well done, Tom
Cat

Great sonnet. Squirrels are very busy little animals. I love the way they sit up strait and look around to see if there is any danger around, and always seem to be in a hurry. Your poem bring through that urgency to go to the next destination, I hope it make sense.

Hi Tom, this is a wonderfully penned poem about the comings and goings of the grey squirrel, This squirrel was introduced to the UK from Europe and almost anhialated the Red squirrel, Your brilliant poem has a great rhythm and rhyme and flows really well.

Thank you Eric. Yes, we do have the red ones up North. They must be hardier.
