Did you say 'some authorities insist.....' I'm sorry, you lost me after that... I had to lock the doors and bar the windows. ;)
I'd say this is a very impressive building AND a sonnet, indeed.
I like the use of all the four and five syllable words that you've
used.
As much as I can remember, that's not done a lot in sonnets, so that's really cool.
Also, your word choices are really great. Well done, another sonnet tackled and mastered... on to the next one! ;)

They don't make buildings like this anymore, do they. Our Houses of Parliament, and official buildings in London are really beautiful, but now everything is built quickly, or cheaply. No artist pride in our buildings now. I loved this style poem, Tom, suits the subject well. :) Sandra xsx

I've written in the past about having visited all fifty states to satisfy my husband's goal of wanting to see all the capitals and capitols. Minnesota's stands out as having one of the more handsome buildings. Thanks for reminding me with your photograph of Gilbert's masterpiece. Your words are consistent with the imagery. Classical is what that building is and you describe it well with your usual poetic flare. The Greek and Roman influence was overwhelming in the western world. The Greek influence even trespassed into Northern India. Well done, Tom.

Interesting piece in which I'm wondering "How did that guy look at the State Capitol Building and get inspiration." To each his own since I get mine from something like a leaf. "Aesthetic possibilities are practical, " Great line.

How nice to be able almost always to use your own photo, and like all this one complements your poem perfectly. You say it is a Saraband Sonnet. You stuck to the rules of it. It is in the Minnesota capital You describe how it was built and the purpose it has.

Wow! That is for both the building and the sonnet. The latter is quite a complex form but pleasing nonetheless. It seems extraordinarily apt for a building that seems to possess delusions of grandeur!
