Although the sadness is evident there is a ray of
bright light which has lead you to a destiny of
your own. Listening to others,digesting their
pains, regrets, loves, life's realities, to pursue
creative writing. Now, how cool is that? I find
this interesting and the art is hardly noticeable

An excellent prose poem on the subject of love, and its ending. Some lovely metaphors in here,m the cedar chest of our minds and the more complex metaphor of the key that follows it.
Please pardon me for pointing this out but I think you are missian "of" in the sentence, "Truth has a way [of] surfacing..."

Thanks my Feral friend...Was not one of my better ones that's for sure....It should really not have been even posted lol...That's what happens after you spent 2 hrs in the dentist chair and he gives you a prescription for pain pills... Which BTW I was glad he did..Then you take 3 fingers of Jack Daniels to wash them down with....Sit at the computer and write what you think is the beginning of the next great American novel lol

A soulful free verse narrative verse poem about life's journey through that minefield of love. Your endearing point is that it becomes better shared by two. Nicely said.
I'm not crazy about block narrative poems. They look too much like prose. You could dress it up just a bit by using that one finger tool known as the Return key as a sculptor's chisel. Here's what I mean, ill use your first 7 lines and not change a word:

on a sweltering hot southern night

about his wife

I pray all is well with you and can definitely relate to writing from the heart. I truly understand your message, I never wrote a poem, nor did I ever read any except for the ones my sister penned. She was the poet and a very good one indeed. After she passed in 2010, I have been writing and unable to put the pen down. When I write it is inspired by God and I will challenge myself my entering a contest. Thanks for sharing my friend. Blessings and lol Portia
