It is obvious that you are not only a talented poet but an impressive painter too. This poem is spiritually uplifting and makes the point that God and Christ are there watching and protecting us. Well done, Tom.

Thank you rod. Not really a painter. Just a paint by number.
Comment from Joan E.
My word--you were already a budding artist at 10! Thank you sharing the work as a perfect compliment to your sonnet. I enjoyed your rhymes and rhythm plus your showcasing the bravest possible act. Cheers- Joan

Not "just a paint by numbers"--you were inspired, and now it's a family heirloom! More cheers- Joan

A great sonnet. I love the painting, it must be very well done to become a family heirloom. The sonnet form is interesting and not too difficult to learn I think. I love the content of the poem, showing off your own spirituality as well. There is so much wrong in the world today, but we believe that all the evil be solved by our Savior.

Thank you Sandra. Yes, the world is a mess, but there is hope. I am pleased you liked it.

Love the poem, Tom. Fascinating rhyme scheme.
The pic didn't come through - pity, I was anxious to look at the 'heirloom'. :)
The red/black combination was a strain on my eyes. Might I suggest changing one of the colours? Just a thought.
Terrific job, as always, Tom! I continue to be awed at your ability to keep producing quality pieces on such a scale.

Great picture, Tom. We had one of them hanging in our living room when I was growing up.

I think this the first Terza Rima I have seen on this site since I posted Nocturne which was about the third poem in my Littoral collection. This one uses the alternative ending - a couplet as opposed to a single line ending. I like this form with its tercets linkeby line 2 to line 1 reminding me of the links in a chain.

Hi there, Tom
I have just returned to FS after a break again and see that you have mastered the art of yet another style of poetry...
This looks to be extremely complex to me. I could not work out the meter for the life of me and trust you have:)
I don't seem to be able to get the beats as it were... LOL
As you know, I am not a believer myself, but I found your poem to be full of hope and appreciation.
Much love

P.S The picture you describe making when you were a wee squirt is not visible?
I will check your post again tomorrow :)

I see you are a master of sonnets. This is another fine example of a sonnet whose meter and rhyme scheme have been perfected. It is about the direction in which mankind is headed that is not pleasant. This is because the present demons are destructively obsessed. The poem celebrates that we should be glad that there is a sacrificial savior who died for our behavior as determined in the last lines. I found it easy to read and pleasant to think about. Five stars for a well done work of art.

It is an amazing thing for one so blessed to have offered himself up for all of mankind. Sadly, he can only die once so the rest is up to all of us to make his sacrifice worthwhile. This is beautifully penned and I thank you very much for sharing it.

I took a peek and that happens to be one of my favorite pictures - I have one like it on the wall behind me, as well as another one in which the angel is hovering over Jesus as he prays in the garden. They remind me that even Christ had a moment of weakness and doubt so I should never be too hard on myself or on others.
