Hello Marilyn,
I'm playing Santa. ;)
I'm going through some of my fans' portfolios and pushing their work over to Recognized or ATB status ;)
And I came to this lovely poem of yours where you ask these questions about our American Flag:

What is more beautiful than the red, white and blue?
(nothing)
What lofty goal does it preserve up there so high?
(to maintain our freedom!)
But what if it was gone, if it ceased to exist?
(then I suppose our rights would be endangered)
Would we cry for liberty, now missed?
(Of course we would!)
Will we unite to honor our flag flying free?
(I certainly hope so!)

All great questions... and we all need to ask ourselves those questions because we may be forced to ask them much sooner than we'd like with the world on the course it's on. ;(

Well written and it deserves to be 'recognized'. ;)
I'm proud to nudge it over into that status.
Happy Holidays Marilyn,
Cat

Cat, that is a wonderful idea. You have hit upon something very nice to do for your fellow writers. I think I will surely adopt such a nice Christmas gift, too, Start a movement of sorts. Thank you so much for your loyal and patriotic thoughts for our country's plight. The world is in terrible turmoil. We need a strong leader, we need to stick together as a nation, and we surely need God's intervention. God bless. Marilyn

Hi Cat. I think this is a lovely idea and thank you for your original thought and kindness. I got notification this a.m. that the poem was recognized. I think this is a worthwhile endeavor and a Christmas gift to your fellow FanStorians. I suggest writing a little essay to encourage others to do the same. What do you think about that? Are you willing to do so? Marilyn

I enjoyed your poem. Too many disregard the flag, or have not been taught how to respect it. You did a great job presenting the facts.

Good job with alliteration and rhyme. They both add to the flow which was very good.

I see no changes. Good job and thanks for sharing.

Wonderful poem about Independence day and the meaning of the American Flag.
Freedom is important, but many people take it for granted.
The American flag is the symbol of freedom, so be proud on it. Many people lost their lifes for freedom. Well written Marylin, loved it!! Fia

But a burning thought is whether the red, white and blue is always synonymous with peace and liberty. In history, it's mottled with the mass murder of North American Indians, the needless Vietnam war, the havoc in Afghanistan. I agree peace and liberty are represented by this flag, but many wars and bloodshed is also represented by it, like so many other flags in this crazy world.

Thank you for your review, Rod, but it's all we have. No other country anywhere can offer what we have here and we take it all for granted. These are perilous times as you know. Best to hold onto our freedoms than lose them. Unfortunately our politicians aren't as wise as we'd wish them to be, fulfilling their own agenda at our military's expense. We owe a great debt to those who have kept us free. I agree that the cases you put forth, Vietnam for instance, were disasters. What on earth would make us think we could accomplish anything there? I flew Pan Am into Saigon at that time and I think you were in the Philippines. A horrible situation. Those young boys were basically abandoned by their country and citizenry, but they didn't run away, they went there as they promised and came back to be dishonored and spat upon. They're the ones with PTSD and living on the street with no VA to back them up. I could go on and on. Bottom line--where would you like to live to have a better life? Is there such a place? Marilyn

Nothing is more beautiful than the Red, White, and Blue. And what it represents. Sad state of affairs when in this country there is a movement underway to take it down just like some want to remove the Confederate flag, another symbol that has a place in the history of this great nation. This poem is well written with a crystal clear message that celebrates this country. Should be a real good contest entry. Well done.

I agree we take our freedoms and all the flag represents for granted. Maybe we have it too easy. All you have to do is travel a bit and realize that the USA is a great place to live. Long may the star spangled banner wave!

Excellent photo that complements your poem perfectly. It rhymes all the way and has a question in every stanza as required for the contest. I think you might be a strong contender. Best wishes for the contest.

A good poem and great questions that everyone on earth, not only Americans should ask themselves. Together we can make the world a better place or break it all down
