I don't think I'll use an outside loo again. I'll cross my legs and wobble home. You might put this down as fiction, but nobody knows what is really out there. Hmm. I feel sorry for poor Darren, but then again, he does sound happy where he is, wherever that is now. Hmm! :)) Sandra xx

I remember thinking that people's thoughts of heaven are likely contained to just a simple idea of something pleasant. A person might be happy to think the same thoughts for the rest of his life.

I'm not much for syfi fiction, but this is well-written.
I could visualize that bathroom scene. Clever insertion of flashback.

Creepy:

amoebic psycho-vampire. They roam that far parsec like buffalo. I'm told they envelope their prey and keep it subdued by controlling its mind as it slowly siphons off its energy."

Oh my, Bill, this a nightmare come true. Scientific research has gone awry and now it's on the loose attacking its first victim. Well written and very believable. All the best. Ulla:))

Hi Bill. Sounds like Darren is in heaven. I liked this. It kept my attention throughout. This is the first chapter I have read. At first I thought Darren would find money some crook his behind the tile. He seems to be happy now. Good job. Thank you for sharing

Wait. Did you really write this? This is some powerful science fiction. In all honesty and I pray that you will not get offended by my comments, this is so far removed from all the animal, germs and bacteria stories you have posted in the past that I am compelled to wonder which writer are you. This is really good stuff.

I brought this up from three years ago. Maybe I'm running out of juice.

I had no idea you had a flair for science fiction, Bill!

As flash fiction, this science fiction is great, but I'd love to see what you cold do by expanding this into a complete short story.

Even if you choose not to expand this, well done!

I'm been working on a novel for years, but the long form is tough to keep motivated to do. I may find a key link and push several sci, horror, or comedy shorts together into either an "Illustrated Man" type deal, or simply an anthology of similar themes.

I know what you mean. I have novel notes, ideas and an outline, but working 6 and sometimes 7 days a week now, I can't complete more than short works.

This certainly was a surprise. Very different for you.

It is well written and holds the reader's attention throughout. Switching to his 'dream thoughts' and back showed us what he was thinking. Too bad no one told him about the symbol on the door, but I guess he's happy where he is now . . . until he is no more. The fur ball will devour him, I'm guessing.

Very good, Bill.

Lucky Darren. He'll be with his family for a very long time. And monsters are supposed to be dangerous. This monster is just what Darren needed. I hope they never disturb it. They'll probably move on to other things and Darren will live happily ever after in a fantasy world. Really nice story, Bill!

Okay...that was unsettling and even kinda spooky -- but well-written...I loved it!! Great episode for the Twilight Zone, I would say! :) :)

Thanx for the "revive" -- always love the interesting reads....too much "emotional" tends to weigh ya down! :) :)

A blood-curdling piece of science fiction which sustained my curiosity throughout. I enjoyed your euphemism "post operation paperwork"!
The scene shifts between Darren and his colleagues worked well too.
